How bad of an idea is this? #3740951 11/09/12 09:30 PM

I'm going hunting this weekend and bringing a buddy with me who wants to go predator calling, but my cousin will be hunting all weekend on the place I normally go, and I don't want to mess up his hunting. So how bad of an idea is it to go predator calling where I deer hunt? It's a smaller tract of land (125 acres) and there's not really anywhere else to go. I really don't want to scare all my deer off for the weekend or more just to go predator calling though. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Bob

Hmmm lets see, the sound of a screaming rabbit will more than likely scare off the deer. I think I would pass on that if you really want your cousin to have a good hunt. If you don't want him to shoot anything call away.

Yeah, that's about what I figured. He's leaving mid day Sunday and not coming back until Christmas so maybe I can squeeze a little calling in Sunday night before I have to head back to school.

Going to be windy tonight increasing Saturday. Makes for tough calling anyway. Forecast to lay late in the day on Sunday with a passing norther. Some deer will come to certain calls. I think more out of curiosity. Those that don't will hightail it to the next county. scared

I'd say go for it on a bigger tract of land but 125 acres is pretty small for calling and deer hunting. let us know if it works out though

I've never seen deer run from a varmint call. I have had em come to it. I never pass up a chance to call anytime.

I've called a number of times around a deer feeder at night after I've shot a coon off of it. Believe it or not them coons will come back to a coon fight. Doesn't work all the time. However at the same time the deer will come right on in to get the corn too. Now the big old bucks tend to let the does and younger bucks feed awhile before they make their appearance. All of this is at night of coarse and until the deer leave I won't shoot. I only turn my light on for a split second to confirm the deer are still there then off it goes. Don't want to get in trouble for poaching. I also give my local game warden a call and let him know where I'll be varmint hunting too during deer season. He's only ever came by once to check me out.

I've been calling for coyotes during the summer and had does come running in right at me! Slobber dripping from their mouths, stomping their front hooves-ready for a fight! I've had this happen on 2 separate occasions. Even after they see you, and realize you are a human, as long as you keep calling they will hang right there in the area circling you and snorting to high heaven.

But NO! you should not be calling while your cousin is trying to hunt.
