NO.

Would you buy a car without a title?

If you take it down the road without a title you gonna have problems.

I don't see a problem with it as long as you get a bill of sale with all of the sellers I info. Most of the older fourwheelers don't have titles, used to not be a problem bc they didn't cost $12k back then!

If you plan on keeping it for ever and not getting rid of it I would consider purchasing it without a title.

Incorrect comparison ,many older atvs do not come with titles. They had a certificate of origin. Many of those were lost between owners. You can call the county you are in, have them run the vin for clearance, get a notarized bill of sale and then fill out the Statement of fact of Ownership form. $18.00 in my county. You will need to have this on your person or atv when transporting or operating unit.
Only a few Texas State law offices do the visual inspection for a title, one is in Bonham.

Me too, lost a Polaris 700 for a year until I finally tracked the guy down and drove him to Hunt County Sheriff office to say he was the owner that sold it to me.
It is a lot of hassle, but is a crap shoot not doing it.

So are you guys saying a person has to keep the title with them all the time? Because if thats what you are saying then that law is bs.

X2. With ATV theft being as high as it is and the number of hunters that use/haul them this time of year, law enforcement does raise their awareness a bit. I just keep a copy in the truck when I haul them. Little hassle for the benefit , if mine did get stolen I would appreciate the law stopping and doing a check on four wheelers,
Man never knows, he may stop the right guy that was dumb enough to haul a stolen four wheeler.

This time of the year so many folks have ATV's in their truck or trailer, I doubt the cops would want to work hard enough to stop them all to check ownership. That's one thing that I've never been stopped for. Good thing, because I never ever have any proof of ownership with me.

First, don't stop at any Dunkin Donut shops. If LEOs stopped every ATV and trailer they would never issue a traffic ticket. Second, you may have a used gun worth more money than the ATV you are carrying and you don't have a title for that firearm. All you can do with some used things is prepare. Same trouble with trailer titles. Trailers under 4000#s you are not required to have a title, at least that is what I was told in Grayson county. One last fact, thieves do not mind giving you a bill of sale.
