Hello,

I am looking for a ranch to take some customers on a guided quail hunt. Looking for a wild bird hunt with dogs. Comfortable lodging and decent meals. Dont need extravagant lodging. Looking in either the panhandle or south Texas.

Looking for a good hunt and a good time.

Let me know some recommendations.

Try Top Flight in Columbus. Quaill are good flyers, even Bill will acknowedgle that. Wild quaill at a deal aren't known in Texas. Leon's very reasonable, the fields are good, you'll have fun.

http://www.topflighthunting.com; this is the place to go. Their birds are good flying birds and they are easy to get to. Abel is a great guide, they have good dogs, and Leon takes good care of his customers. We have an upland hunt booked for Feb...

Nice looking place. I'll have to check it out. My new dog will be ready to get on some birds next year so this will be a good start.

My friend Chris stays in touch with Ronnie Smith. They were still doing hunts at the Mariposa last year. Here you go;

http://www.mariposaranch.net/

At the Mariposa Ranch, wildlife management and control is our business. From clearing young mesquite growth to selective, controlled strip burning, we preserve and improve our quail habitat. Too, unlike most, we use cattle to graze the grass just enough to keep it from becoming too thick. We also shred over 200 miles of quail hunting roads each year, which are then fed throughout the season. These measures ensure that our quail populations are not pressured, remain well nourished through the winter, and have pristine cover in which to hold and hide.

I've hunted at Flying P Outdoors in Hico many times. They put on great hunt and makes for a fun weekend trip. The lodge is nice and they provide three awesome meals. It's close to Stephenville and not far from DFW, but a 4.5 hour drive for me from Houston.

Flying P is a great place, been many times, first time was about 20 years ago, they have great cover & give you a very large piece of property to hunt on but I have never stayed in the lodge, just self guided hunts. They are getting a little pricey now though. I think it started out at $100 per person for 12 birds. There are many places to go hunt pen raised birds for cheaper but I haven't found a better one. If you just want to go get your dogs on some birds for training, it's not the place to go but if you want a hunt that is as close to real quail hunting as possible, this is the place.

DANG! That really helps me appreciate having some land with a fair wild bird population.

I am in the process of setting up a quail hunting property about 2 hours out of Houston. These will be farm raised flight ready quail hunts. Price in the range of $170/hunt. Bird cleaning available on site. Dog and guide service will also be available. I am still in the planning phase so any input would be great. I have the property found, the private land hunt license and the birds. Just need hunters and any improvement ideas. I am also considering dog training clinics out there with a professional trainer, our birds and your dog.

If anyone is interested in hunts, training, or has any ideas, Shoot me an Email. joshatex1984@gmail.com

This is cheap compaired to what some of the people pay for a season lease in that area. The people from WM hunt that area. I know people who have two dog trucks and up to 26 dogs, who hunt that area. They fly in. Of course, I know them better than they know me.

I am afraid to shoot those valuable little suckers. Hopefully this weather will cool off and we can go chase them around a little.
