Whenever I get outside when I'm not "supposed" to, I always think of an Aldo Leuopold quote from Sand County Almanac.

"the sweetest hunts are stolen. To steal a hunt, either go far into the wilderness where no one has ever been, or else find some undiscovered place under everyone else's nose."

I consider quick hunt before work to be stolen in that same manner. My cousin blackmag312 is in town for a training, and we hit the lease this morning for a quick hunt. Right at an hour drive out there, and about and hour and a half back With traffic. Shooting time was at 6:12, and we had one group of greenwings buzz the spread and land in the far corner 5 minutes early, they booked out shortly after.

One single greenwings bombed the decoys, Stephen wiffed three times, and I crunched him. Rusty made a great retrieve in fifth gear. Few minutes later a jet engine cruises on the decoys at mach 5. "was that a....," "yep, that's a can!". Hit the jerk cord, little diver purr (not sure that mattered), and he swung around for pass number two. Stephen and I both put a load his direction and he winged down. Raced down the levee and put a swatter on him, and rusty fetched it up.

Two more single greenwings, and we picked up decoys 47 minutes after lst to make it in.

Not a bad hunt, we were 100% on the birds we saw.

Sounds like y'all had a good morning and at very least you have some stuff to give Stephen grief about grin

He actually did it twice. But I didn't crumpled the second on my first shot either.

Forgot to mention, this is a shallow flooded ag field, deepest water around was about 7 inches.

Duck Boy, where is your field. It looks like we are hunting the same area.

This field is one of many on the lease I'm on, but this particular field was near east Bernard.

The can will be aged, plucked, and roasted with salt, pepper, maybe a touch of thyme. Then I will lick every single bone dry.

The teal will get added to the pile I brought home last weekend.
