Aftering get a buck locally in archery season, I ended up going on a last minute trip out to Texas Fur-n-Feathers Outfitters (Bellevue, TX) for opening weekend.

Opening day we passed on a 120'ish 3.5 year old 8 point that we saw in the morning and evening (wouldn't mind crossing paths with him in 2014).

On Sunday evening I spotted a bigger bodied buck at around 200 yards. When his head popped up and I saw he was pretty tall, I put the binos down and got the rifle ready. He cruised right along a trail behind a feeder but didn't have food on his mind. Due to the quick pace he was on and distance from me, a serious case of buck fever set-in. He stopped broadside at 185 yards, I took the shot and it hit the back of his heart and lungs. We heard the "thud" of the bullet hit him. He ran about 30 yards and stopped, I quickly took a second shot (that we thought was a miss) that hit his leg. All in all he ran about 40 yards from where the first shot hit him. As Vince said "he was dead, he just didn't know it yet".

We found him quickly and even got a few pics before legal shooting time ended. He was a 9 point that had a broken main beam on his right side that would have made him a ten (easiest to see on the third pic). We agreed that he was a 4.5 yo buck.

I had a great time hunting with the TFNF guys. Big thanks to Ryon, Blake, & Vince for their hard work leading up to the season.
