In addition to my 155 and 168 A-max ammo, I am wanting to do some research for a light-weight hunting round for deer that will penetrate well. I am wanting to make a FAST, light-weight round in 308 Win for deer. I'm thinking a 130 or 150 grain soft point (SP). The 130 should be running about 3050 fps, and the 150 grain SP about 2800 fps.
This ammo would also be priced at $75 per 100 rounds. Also, would you like to see a smaller round minimum, like 50 rounds offered, instead of a 100 round minimum?
So, 130 or 150 grain SP for deer, and 50 rounds minimum instead of 100?
Thank you, THF!!

Chad your probably already familiar with this site but it has some pretty detailed load. http://www.reloadersnest.com/rifle.aspCheck out the 125's for the 308.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Yes, I was looking at those also. The only problem with the Nosler 125 BT is the price and bullet performance. They are a little more expensive than I'm looking at, and they tend to fragment at high speeds. The lead SP bullets should hold together a little better and the price point is very good. Thanks for the feedback!

Chad, i load a 125 sierra pro hunter in my '06 pushing 3200 and i have harvested sever deer over the years with the bang flop method and complete pass through. I load a 150 sierra game king in my 308 and is very accurate and it is rite aroung 2750 or so but have not taken a deer as of yet with this load but do have complete confidence in it. The '06 is 54gr imr 4350 The 308 is 45gr Varget hope this helps.
Thanks Doc

Yeah, I would lean towards a Pro Hunter as they are a little stouter than the Game Kings, accurate and cheap.
I only have loaded one sub 150 in a 308 with the 130 TTSX My LTR with a 1 -12 twist doesn't like 150s for some reason My research showed I needed to get well above 2800 FPS to have better ballistics than the 165 or 175

I would agree with not using the GameKing BTSP, that bullet in .270win loaded to max velocity resulted in multiple failures on deer for me.
What about the 150gr Hornady Interlock SP?
I see load data at 2800fps muzzle and I have seen nothing but great results from the interlock....Price point is in your favor too.
$22.99 per 100...and im sure you could find a better deal with the quantity you order.

the 150 SGK's is all i have been using in my 308 for the last few years and it does the job every time. it's been very accurate out of my savage, ruger and rem 308's. Going to give the VLD's a try this year just to change it up.

The Sierra 125 grain SP Pro Hunter would be a good bullet and an option I can do. I like this one! I think I will offer it.
So, what would be a good name for a 308 Win loaded with a 125 grain SP at 3050 fps?!! Something like "308 Win Atomic Deer Ammo". Is that too cheesy?!

Why not just name it "308 SUPER ATOMIC ZOMBIE DEER KILLER".... even got a slogan picked out "It kills deer...and then kills them again when the zombie deer apocalypse comes!"

Yea the Zombie thing seems to be working for other company's. What about the 308 buck burners.

Chad I think your on to something, love to see what you could do with some of the magnums. We got some crazy numbers with the 110's and 125's out of the 300 Weatherby's. The 7 mag is another that enjoys lighter rounds.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Yes, they did or may still do. The 110 V-max might be too fast for a varmint hunting bullet on pigs and deer. I don't have any direct experience with it on game, though. Anyone?

I didn't know it is a vmax. Because its a vmax it will be voted down quickly. Because I a hard kicking rifle I became recoil sensitive many years ago. I bought and hunted exclusivly with 22250 using 55gr vmax. I cant tell you how many deer, mule deeer, hogs, and axis I killed with it. Nasty little round that fast. I know it wouldnt be popular enough for you to sell but it sure would be fun. And the vmax will kill just fine even though its a varmint bullet.

I use the 60 grain V-max in my AR and it works just fine. It holds together well and gives good penetration. I have even used that bullet in shooting comps.

Chad I know of some people using the 110 vmax so they don't have to worry about over penetration, I am not sure that bullet would be my top choice for a hog.

Chad my experience is with the 30-06 but when I was stationed in Germany, the 150 gr Winchester PSP was devastating on Roe Deer, which dressed out at about 45lbs. I would think that a bullet similar to the PSP, should give you good results, on Texas pigs and deer. I do know that the PSP has a good reputation on much bigger deer.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

When I used to cull shoot a couple of ranches we had over by Utopia that had Black Cows all over them and hard to see sometimes in the brush, I started loading a 100 grain HP in my 270 at about 3000 FPS which was a little slow, but accurate..It would kill a doe completely go thru but only schrapnel on the other side..I took svl. animals the next year with pcs. of jacket under their skin..Never did hurt a cow..which at about $800 up per hd. could have gotten expensive..I usually used the 22-250 and also had great results..and DRT more so than the larger calibers..DD
