Reminding everyone to be on the lookout for an ivory billed woodpecker while sitting in the stand. Mostly east tx hunters. There's a $50,000 reward from Cornell if you can take them to one.

Not to be confused with the Pileated Woodpecker which is very common in east texas and is similar in size and coloration.

I can only imagine what would happen to your lease if one of these was actually found living on or near it. I'm not sure there would be much hunting on it afterwards. I believe the last "official" sighting of one was back in the 30's. As I understand it, they're a very large woodpecker by today's standards, and did well in the virgin forests that existed before the turn of the 19th century and before.

The Cornell Group was in Arkansas for a long period of time looking for that bird. Spent thousands of dollars, locals told them exactly where they were!

Good article.

One of the key differences is the appearance of white on the back of the wings. The very common Pileated Woodpecker does not have these white areas on the back of its wings when resting.

Im not sure if I could justify $50,000 on saying I sighted one. I'm almost positive the following onslaught of treehuggers wanting to save the species would surely make your hunting spot become extinct.

Here now, do I get the 50 thousand, or does the landowner get it?

I'd give up one of my spots for 50k, as long as I get to keep the cash banana2
