I almost always carry a pistol when in the field even if I have a rifle. Just comforting knowing I can quickly get off several rounds if the need arises. I know the odds of being attacked by a lion, hog, poacher are slim but so are the odds of being carjacked.

I will for sure now that my stuff and place have been targeted by thieves. We do have a mountain lion on our place but I doubt I'll see him.

i do too...i prefer to use a pistol to finish off a wounded pig especially when the light is fading and i can't see through the scope anymore..just pull out the pistol point and shoot

I never understood the need for a handgun if you also have a rifle. I guess the best answer is, "Because I look cool!"

I remember a famous quote from Bill Pinnell when a greenhorn asked about hunting a brown bear on Kodiak Island with the then-new .44 mag round in a handgun. Pinnell was reputed to say, "I guess it might work OK...just as long as you save the last cartridge for yourself."

Never carry one on me. Rifle is all I need. I have one in my cleaning bag if I need it or on the Ranger.

Just curious. What else are you carrying with you? Camera, cooler, extra jacket, rifle, spotting scope, flashlight, pistol in one hand, etc? Just curious as to how quickly you can get the pistol out of the holster and get the shot off if your hands are full?

I carry a 45 for hogs and snakes.

I usually have either a Rifle or a Pistol not usually both at the same time.

But in the warmer Snake Months I may carry a pistol with some Snake Shot just in case I run into one of our small 6 foot rattle snakes lol.

99.5% I have my 6" Glock 20, loaded with my 180gr HOT loads. Got a small boar last year at 30 yds. (Yes, it has a laser on it!)

i carry a pistol everytime i go out to hunt. i have a old story from tracking a deer i shot at the last little light, and getting into a thicket. need less to say when you cant see 2' in front of you, but you can here a grunt, snort, and something running right at you, it will make you a little uneasy. theres more to story but this is the shortest version i can make.

Always, 357 mag. I got it from my grandpa. He always had both. Im more worried about poachers than hogs. Theres also stopping at walmart and some dude trying to rob you.
