Does anyone have any input on how good/bad the hunting is in Coleman Co.? I am looking at a ranch in Voss, Tx. It has promising pictures but I was just looking for some input. Thanks.

I have heard both good and bad about Coleman. Believe I heard the south and western portions tend to be better than eastern.

We have land outside of Brookesmith, and have lots of hogs and some really nice 10 pts and a nice 9 pt, they haven't been coming to feeders here lately because of the acorns, but hopefully with the freeze that will get them moving and coming to feed again.

Buddy of mine has leased 2000 acres for over 20 years and they have some monsters on it, just south of Cross Plains.

I hunt on 1200 acre lease not for from Voss and absolutely love it.
I live in Monroe Louisiana and drive 6.5 hrs to enjoy those wonderful Texas sunsets that brings back memories of the days with my dad hunting the hill country.Unless price is way out of wack you wont go wrong! good luck on your decision.

We own a hunting ranch in Coleman county. Just to give you a little history on the deer here. There wasn't too many deer in the Coleman area back in the '70s due to the screw worm. When it was eradicated northern deer were introduced here. Hence, the deer are of a larger size.

As someone stated above that certain areas were better than others is far from the truth. Any area could or could not be suitable due to available food and cover but as a general overview Coleman and the Voss area are very respectable areas for game. The only game animal that is in short supply is the quail.

I can tell you this abt 9 yrs ago, the company I used to work for leased 900 acres just across the river off of hi way 283. in the south part of Coleman co. We had 2 miles do the Colorado River hunt against, man some some very nice deer in the area there. We had a management plan in place so we watched what we harvested each year. In the time we hunted there several 130 to 145 class deer was taken. Not mention hundreds of turkey roaming the area. Goodluck with choice of property there......

Both of these were taken last year in NE corner of Coleman County.

This guy was taken I think in 2010 just ten miles from my place right on the county line between Brown and Coleman. I hear a lot about the southern end being better. For birds the cultivation is hard in the North side, it's like one big rock.

Thanks for everyone's input. Very helpful. I'm looking forward to hunting this property. The previous property owner has pics of some 120-150" deer and lots of turkey, and he claims that he has never seen any pigs. I'm hoping that we can start hunting this place this year.

Hey thanks COLEMANDEER! Do you use a processor for your deer meat? I have been using one in San Saba for the past 15 years. I hate to stop using them, but I dont think I want to drive that far out of the way now for a processor. Any suggestions in the coleman area?

Yes, Coleman has a great processor in Hall's Processing. They are North on Hwy 84 as you are heading west out of town. Something else they provide is gutting service. I only say this because they only charge $10.00 For gutting those nasty ole pigs. I can't dull and sharpen my knife for $10.00. Makes it nice to eradicate a hog, backup to it, and throw it in the truck, haul it to town and have it processed for $80.00. They do standard cuts but those 1/2" pork chops are wonderful on the grill.

Thanks Team By-God, I'll keep big O's in mind. I remember passing it while we were driving to view the property in Voss. We stopped and ate at a place in Santa Anna. It was a mom and pop joint downtown. Very good food! Dont know the name but I will be eating there again thats for sure.
