Had something odd happen while bow hunting this morning.Got in the climbing stand about 15 minutes before daylight just got situated and waiting till it got light enough to see when I heard some noise. Noise got louder and I became aware of a heavy breathing sound. This heavy and I mean heavy breathing sound kept getting closer and closer till it got right under my tree. I'm here to tell you at this time I was so glad to be 20' up a tree. Well I'm scared but not worried then he made a grunt and I new it was a buck. Wheew I almost laughed at myself he stayed just long enough I could make out the outline of a deer and then walked off still breathing heavy. If he had not grunted or stayed long enough to make him out this would be a East Texas Big Foot post. I can imagine a less experienced hunter to have been there and what he would have thought. I'm just glad I wasn't on the ground because I believe I might have soiled myself and or had a heart attack.

Our imaginations run wild when we're sitting there in the dark with only a bow as comfort. The first time I bow hunted with my brother, we were about 300yds apart, he on one side of the ridge and me on the opposite, we a Mountain Lion let out a roar between us. That'll get your heart pumpin also made every hair on my body stand up.

I kicked a covey of quail up one morning on way to bow blind when I was about 17. That was all she wrote that morning. Hunt over. I let out a squeal that bumped everything for miles.

I almost stepped on a bunny the other night while checking game cams and jumped about 10 feet in the air and screamed like a girl. I was terrified

I walked into the middle of a pack of javelina one morning. It was light enough to see, so I knew what they were, but when those little teeth start popping you start channeling Earl Campbell.....time to high step!

No one carries a side arm? I always carry my 45 just in case.

Out here we have all types of critters that bit back. My wife always worries about me when I go hunt by myself. She tells me to take a pistol. But I sometimes hunt public land. I can't take a pistol on to public land, or can I?

If you have a CHL you can carry your pistol with you.

You can hear some funny noises in the woods. I was sitting under a big Live Oak one evening right at sundown. About 50 yards in front of me in heavy brush, I started hearing a noise that sounded like someone was pulling a chainsaw rope. I have never heard anything like it and I've been in the woods for 50 years. It kept getting louder and closer; louder and closer. At first, I wasn't even sure it was an animal. When it got right in front of me, it stopped. I couldn't see it. It couldn't see me. But we were way too close for my comfort. In a minute, it steps out. It was a big black hog that must have weighed 400 pounds. I've seen a lot of hogs but I've never heard one make that noise.

Practice doesn’t make perfect.
Practice makes permanent.

I have bumped quail and pigs in pitch dark when walking to the stand. It will definitly freak you out! I don't like to use a flash light, unless I have to.
