I woke up this morning at 4 to get up and ready for a morning hunt with the weather being in upper 30's and very little wind. I got my coffee going and was changing into my camo when my wife walks. She asked me what I was doing. I told her well you know I had planned a few days ago to go hunt today. She got mad and told me well I told you lastnite mom wasn't going to be able to watch Austin ( our 2yr old son ) till about 10. Well she never told me that like she thinks she did ( I am starting to think my wife is as crazy as her mother ). Well needless to say I am sitting here daydreaming about hunting for another day with a 2 yr old pointing out bucks and does to me. If it wasn't so cold outside I would have took my some with me. He loves to be in the blind with dad hunting and acts really good while we sit in the blind. I have took him out in the evenings with me to set and watch. I love my son and love to spend time with him it's just the fact that my wife and mother in law get off on screwing me over when I plan hunts. Has anyone else ever had their in laws or wife mess up a hunting trip.

Get a calendar and mark the rest of the weekends during hunting season you will be hunting...then tell them to plan accordingly! Good luck.

Don't begrudge the time you spend with the boy. You should cherish and enjoy it. Bundle him up and take him with you, the memories will be a lot more worth wild than a piece of back strap.

Mine does the same thing. I told her that if I don't know her plans, it's her fault. She has to be sure to give me plenty of advance notice so I can plan (since she never plans) my day. She is getting much better at reminding me now and rarely surprises me anymore. It only took about 30 years, hang in there.

I would have taken him with me but being so early and him not really having warm enough clothes I decided against it.

Well, that's a good and a bad all rolled into one. Good - Your son will enjoy the time with Dad and the deer will be there next time you get a chance to go. Bad - Sucks that you don't get to go hunting like you had planned.
My situation is just opposite of yours. My wife tries to get me to go hunting more so she can use that time to go visit her mom while I'm gone. She has bought me rifles, scopes and even paid for my first year on a hunting lease a few years ago. Mine is a keeper.
Season is just starting though so there's still plenty of time to get out there. Look at it this way, you are healthy enough to go another time. Lots of folks I know aren't so lucky and have seen their last hunting trip.

I've learned too!

I never ask a question or make a statement unless I'm looking directely at her. That way when I ask a second time and she says "I answered", I can say "was that head nod a yes or a no".

Newlyweds - be careful! This will get ya in trouble......

That sux. I have a great wife In 27 years never interfered with where I go fish or hunt. I've gone to Mexico bass fishing and took my 9 yr old She was supportive where guy friends wife's didn't let them go cus it was Mexico. I've bought 4 bass boats and she supported each. Bought some shot guns recently and she never asked why.

I get the ol "I told you that" pretty regularly. Part of it is my fault, the other part is that I've told her she talks so much there is no why she can expect me to retain more than half of what she says.

Lance if you rat me out, your wife is fixin to get clued in on what's coming and going out of the knife drawer.

You didn't get screwed though. What happened is you had to put your family's interests in front of your own. Happens a lot when you are a father. The deer will still be there, enjoy the time with your son.

Don't be in any hurry to be wifeless. Trust me when I tell you that there will be plenty of short term issues, problems, and irritations in any marriage. That's a normal marriage and not necessarily a bad marriage. I have a great marriage, but like I tell folks, I've been married for 40 years, and it's been 3 of the best years of my life.

I feel your pain. My wife, sister, and mother planned a family picture day tomorrow of all days. We are supposed to be at the photo place tomorrow morning for pictures which does 3 things. 1)keeps me from getting to the lease today, possibly in time to hunt this evening. 2) keeps me from hunting in the morning. 3) makes it where my dad and I have a 2hr 45min drive to make after the pictures to make it to the lease in time to hunt Saturday evening. Not to mention, I have one of the best bucks I have seen on our lease frequenting the feeder now. To top it off, opening weekend of mule deer season, her sister is getting married and the wedding will be about 5 hours from the lease. We have had quite a few "discussions" about involving me in plans made during hunting season here lately. bang
