it should for a while, then the high b/c 115 will pass it up. That should happen around the 400yd mark. Not what I experienced. There is a huge difference in the velocity of the two loads though. Off top my head 80 is almost 3900 at muzzle and the vlds are 3300. it'll still catch it by 450. talking .316 b/c vs. .466. That 80 slows down dramatically as it loses energy. Compare the 80ttsx with the factory 115 bt.. on weatherby's site. Only thing I can think of is speed because the vld is actually better moa in my gun then the 80ttx wby shows the ttsx ain the .36s, barnes shows it @ .316..wby plugged in the B/C for the 100gr ttsx.

Weatherby shows the 115 bt (.453) at 2357@ 500 and the 80ttsx(.378) @2514 @500
400 is 2753 vs 2547

400 is 2753 vs 2547 barnes shows that bullet at .316 & 100gr TTSX @ .357. The 115gr BT may be right. The Berger VLD is listed at .466.

Wby's numbers may be inflated. Barnes has changed their b/s a few times. As far as their velocities they are actually slow compared to cousins chomo..but I'm shooting 26" barrel and theirs could be based off 24"

How much do you really think you are willing to spend on ammo? I just got out of a .257 because of the cost of ammo. Stinkin' expensive if you want to shoot all the time. The 25-06 isn't as hot but its an awesome round, and affordable. I'd just get the 25-06 and pay attention to what bullet you're using for each situation. There's alot of research and statistics already on this forum on what to use and where. Good luck buddy!

7mag, first rifle I ever bought and it will knock down anything in N. America!
I don't smoke ,so I can't say but I highly doubt it. I do know a loud fart works! I think they like the smell plus I guess they think it's a buck grunt. _________________________

Neither. Use 1 of the two calibers you have for the species you mentioned, they will do just fine. Then, go buy a .22-250 or .204 Ruger for varmints and general monkeying around. So. Much. Fun.

If you like to shoot a lot and don't much care for recoil and noise, go w/the 25, however, if you are ever planning on going Elk hunting ect maybe the 7...I wore out my first from when they first came out and it was a great rifle..especially for a younger man..I'd not like that much recoil and noise now..I mostly shoot a 308..and it is good to 400yds..which is farther than most shoot anyway..Your loads and projectiles and shot placement are mostly what counts..if you weapon is accurate..The 06 will do it all and has 1000 of times over..Don

I moving to alpine texas in december and i need help deciding on a rifle to use. I own a 700 7-08 and a 7600 30-06 so far and i was looking to buy a gun that would be the best fit for hunting in that area. im sure the 7-08 could do the job for a lot of stuff but any excuse to buy a new gun is a good one in my book. What do you guys recommend i get first? animals in the area are mule deer, pronghorn, and audad. Considering the country you'll be hunting and the options you layed out the choice is easy, get the 7 Mag. Not many calibers benifit from handloading like the 7-mag, with bullet weights from 100 to 180 grains you can design a round for just about anything.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

It's funny that you give two choices and how many other variances folks spout out in lieu of your two provided. based off what you already have in the cabinet I'd go ahead with the 7 mag as you already have great mid range caliber (7-08) and getting a 25-06 would be similar IMO. The 7mm would be my choice between the two. Happens every time some people have difficulty staying on topic.

I would go with the 7mm mag because it is a do all gun. Shooting 100 and 120gr projectiles it is a sweetheart. I deer hunt with 120 gr Barnes TTSX (almost max load) out of mine and it hit like a hammer, but the recoil is just barely more than my 25-06.
I can load it up with 140 gr and 175 gr, but when you do you can consider the recoil to go up with the bullet weight. I am not recoild senesative but my 7mm mag max loaded with 175 gr Partitions buts out a pretty good thump.

Red head or Blonde? Wait, Brunette. Durn, decisions decisions.....
7-08 and '06 will take anything in the lower 48, so get you a good .223 to play with, or maybe upgrade your optics on one of the other guns. Not much of an '06 fan, but I've maybe fires 3 bullets from one in my 50 plus years on this earth. 7-08, well lets just say I kick myself everyday for getting rid of my Gun in that caliber. I am wanting a .308 so bad, not that I need it, but probably like you, just a want.

It really depends on what distance you plan to Hunt.
The Lowly 308 Winchester is a good round as well as my favorite the 358 Winchester which hits like Thor's Hammer. If I need longer distance I call on the 35 Whelen lol.
I have never been a big fan of the 7MM or for that Matter the Magnum craze.

I have both and love to shoot both. I shoot my 25-06 more. It just keeps knockin stuff down... way out there! If I were gonna purchase both I would start with the 25. If I couldn't have but one, I would take the big 7 and never look back. You wont be dissapointed either way... Oh yea..... Great place here!
