I hunted with a friend in West Texas and he placed Apples and Pears on wire like Christmas ornaments near his feeder in a pen. I had to walk a long way to sneak in there at night and take bites out of his apples and pears but it was fun to watch him the next day checking them. They rotted away hangin on the tree except for a few bird and wasp enjoying them. Don't tell Ken C I did it. LOL

I put whole apples out once and a doe and fawn spooked when they smelled them and didn't come back. The apples stayed til they rotted. There weren't hogs in the area back then.

I use hole apples and the deer love them. The funny thing is they seem to like the granny smith apples over the red delicious apples. Haha. I'm partial to the honey crisp myself! I wonder if they would work any better that Granny's could.

if the hogs find them first you wont have a chance to find out if the deer will eat them or not they will be gone. There is no doubt about what they will do to them

I get bad produce/fruit from my local Albertsons and I put out some last season. The deer ate all the apples, raspberries, strawberries and oranges (which I quartered). They didn't eat a single grape though. First day I put them out I watched a doe eat and orange and she got pretty excited after her first taste.
Will do it again next weekend.

Will throw out whole apples if I have some starting to go bad. Step on a few of them to get the smell out there a little faster. They will kinda play with them for a bit but don't go crazy over them

once threaded some with a long needle and fishing line and hung em from the bottom of the feeder, took em awhile to figure out what they were, once the coons chewed on em a little and they started to get soft, the deer hit em hard.

If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

The deer absolutely love apples. I toss out a bag of apples every weekend I go hunting.

Basically sniffed and circled it, then when she finally took a bite she bucked and pranced around. She ate several of the ones I had cut up.

My brother, of course he hunts NJ, uses them all the time. Goes to a local market and the fill up the bed of his truck with apples that are going bad. He takes a 5 gallon bucket and dumps them out at his spot. He called today and said he got a doe that came into the apples he threw out today.

I have always quartered my apples and they usually dont last one or two evenings. I will throw out about 10-15 lbs at a time. Talk to the guys in the produce section at walmart and they will usually have quite a bit that are starting to get old that they can either give you for free or just a few bucks.

Last year there was a thread about deer loving pumpkins, so after Haloween I loaded up some from our yard that my wife put out for decoration. I busted one up and left the others whole. Those damn things are still there; all withered and black. Back to corn and Strawberry Jell-O for me.

Put out some quartered up apples and pears last night, about to go see what's left. I had them eating sweet potatoes last year after my dad told me to try it.
