Just checked my game cam after leaving it out all season (thankfully it still works) and got these pics. Funny how the animals always seem to show up during late season when I'm not there, especially the exotics. Oh well, going to have to make time for a late January/early February trip in 2013.

There's a very good explanation for them showing up late in the winter. Food sources are diminished greatly, the rut is over and they're searching out any food source that they can find.

That's what I was thinking, but last year the drought was tough on that area and food was pretty scarce and we still didn't have much activity early.

I had planned on a late season trip and we couldn't get away for one reason or another. Not going to let that happen again this year!

I obviously need to get down there and get a feeder going. North of Leakey? Just wondering, we have a place at Spring country.

Yes, we're on the north side. All the game look to be in good shape and planning on being out there opening weekend.

Hopefully the bumper acorn crop won't keep the big boys in the hills!

Not sure how I overlooked this but just found this ram while purging through my old trail cam shots.

They used to be common in the area but we rarely see them today.

Btw, any idea what sheep species this guy is?

My guess on the sheep is a mouflon but I'm not an expert.

Nice looking ram. It is a Corsican, Mouflon cross. Mouflon as with all wild sheep will have a very short tail, 4" or less.
