Thornbirds are terrible tires for what they're supposed to be, stick with the TSL if you're going that route. I had a set of 37" boggers on my K5 and they would sling mud like you wouldn't believe!

Toyo Open County MT.

Great in mud, great on daily driver, quiet, awesome wet road traction and last 60,000 +highway miles.

I usually run Buckshot radial mudders.I've had pretty good luck/wear out of them.I had 1 @ 4yrs ago that went out of round after 3yrs and 15k miles, the tire store called the buckshot distrubitor & they gave me a new tire free of charge.

If you don't mind the bias ply, the TSL SX is a great tire too. I had some 33x15.5 back in high school that were awesome in the goo, those side lugs will pull you out of ruts most of the time.

I am in the market for some new tires as well and am leaning towards the Trail Grapplers. Anyone have personal reviews on them?

This is a good piece of info to know.

For daily driver/play, Goodyear MTR or nitto mud grappler (loud onroad, but very good offroad), or even something like the trail grappler would be great.

For play, take a look at IROKs. Mud grapplers would apply in this category as well.

Mud Grapplers are trash, on a toy or daily driver.

I have Trail Grapplers on my tow rig, IROKs on my CJ7, KM2s on my Nissan, and Red Label Krawlers on my rock buggy. I've tried everything - Toyo MT, Goodyear MT/R and MT/R-Kevlar, Firestone Destination MT, Cooper Discoverer STT, etc.

I've never tried the Mud Grapplers because I've seen how poorly they perform. They suck in the mud, suck on the rocks, and suck on the sand. Ever wonder why their most popular tire sizes are for 20in or larger wheels? They belong on mall crawlers.

Just my $0.02

My wife has them on her YJ. 22K miles and look band new, worked great in New Mexican snow (12"), East Texas mud, Hill Country wash outs, and not too shaby on the highway. Hers are wide (12.5) so they can steer for you if you let 'em and they aren't the quietest tires ever.

I had them for over a year and they did great in everything i threw at them. I know a LOT of crawler guys that swear by them. But i guess to each his own. They are certainly not for everyone. only way i would have another set is for a toy. Toyo MT's are what belong on mall crawlers......

Yes, running them now and they have been the best mudders I have ever owned for an on/off road vehicle.

I will agree that the Toyo MT is best suited for a mall crawler. Way too stiff of a tire to really be useful on a dedicated rig. If you want the ultimate grip, go for TSL/SX Stickies or Red Label Krawlers. wink
