Yesterday afternoon, I lost my oldest hunting buddy. I remember the cold night's during Christmas break, out in the woods chasing coons with hounds. Letting me drink coffee and chew a little tobacco. Didn't care if we'd get a coon or not, I was just happy to be out there with him. He taught me to hunt, make my way through the woods, drive, shoot and eat what you harvest. Paw Paw, I miss you so much already, but I'm happy you are in a better place. Free of aches and pains. We will meet again someday. But until then, give them coons hell.
Thanks brothers for letting me get this off my chest. Losing a loved one is never easy, but being around friends helps ease the pain.

Condolences and Prayers up, we each deal with such a loss on our own way. Some of your Paw Paw is always around as long as you remember him and make him proud.

Also sorry for your loss. My gramps died about 5 years ago and I still think about him all the time and wish I had asked more questions about his younger days. Something special about grandpas.

Be grateful for those times and prayers up, my papa is still around, but by the time we were old enough to hunt, he was in to bad of shape to do it. Wish I could have spent time with him hunting so badly.

Sorry for your loss ! You have the right attitude though not fair of us to want to keep them here when they are in such pain sometimes . Remember everything he taught you and pass it on !

Yes, retell the stories he told, and of the times out there doing what you both loved. Sounds like you both did it right. Prayers that the pain will ease up for you.

I'm so sorry. I lost my paw pa some time ago. But you can bet he is with me every time I go to the woods. He is the first person I sat in a deer stand with. He hunts in the great woods now. Where game is never ending and a camp fire is always going. And you can bet when I leave this earth that camp fire will be the first thing I look for. All the best and keep the tradition.

I believe that the description "larger than life" describes someone whose influence on those he/she touched shaped their character, so they live beyond their years. I know I carry my mentors with me daily. I am sorry for your loss, but relish the memories that are now part of you.

Thank you guys for all the thoughts, prayers and kind words. I've only been here a short while, and being here makes me feel like I'm around family. It's hard to think of anything but good memories because there are so many, but I will definitely miss talking to him and listening to his deer hunting stories. I've got the 20 gauge he passed down before he passed. I plan on using it a lot this year so he can go hunting with me a few more times.
