Shot my first deer of the season recently (MLD) and I used one of the tricks my dad taught me that has accounted for a lot of kills over the years and just wondered what you guys had passed on to you.

I'll start:
It was windy in the morning and the deer were very skittish.
I was after a doe for meat and wanted a clean/DRT
A few were wandering around and when I picked the one I wanted I got the gun ready, A good rest and aimed at the neck then did "the whistle"
Just a quick short whistle

As always the it snapped it's head towards me and stared frozen looking for what made that sound. Zero movement, frozen.

As I already had the gun lined up, I simply put the crosshairs dead center just below the head and squeezed the trigger.

It dropped instantly of course.
I said a few "thank you's to God" and went over and got her.

That little whistle trick from my dad has helped me put a lot of deer down.
A lot of times even if one is running (not a full on escape mode run) it will stop them just long enough to take the shot.

Thanks for the trick dad, we are enjoying the meat it provided for my family and I will be thinking of you next week wishing you could be with us.

As a bowhunter, I got to have them close. But my problem is that our E Tx deer WILL look up. A lot of times, by the time the deer is in range, they will spot me in my stand. Although I know they don't know what I am, problem is tryin to draw once I get a shot without them catching my movement. The trick I found to work, is to take a small stuffed animal, like a teddy bear, and just lay it on the ground 20 or so yds out. Then, when a deer comes in, they are so fixed on my "teddy bear", I can reach for my bow, stand up, draw and shoot without ever worring about gettin busted by movement. I found that pink works best!!! up

Lay down a thick line of corn perpendicular to your firing line. For some reason the deer will start at one end of the line and work towards the other end, their bodies also perpendicular to your firing line.

I always keep a good fart held in until they are close, then let er rip! J/k! I agree with the corn idea, I have done this a few times and it will work. Just make sure you lay your corn down in your firing lane. Good luck!

pretty much any goat sound works.

if there at a trot they get a goat sound.

gently walking....a whistle.

can't tell you how many deer I've seen fall after the whistle

To get a doe to not move her head up and down so much, put cattle cubes with the corn on the ground. They'll chew with head up. Then Baah, boom.

To calm the nerves, buck fever, imagine a sign on the deer ribs reading "fresh meat $29/pound"

My dad always used to whistle. I can't whistle very well - it sounds more like noisy spitting.

The last deer I had to stop responded to a loud "Quack". He stopped, looked, and fell in his tracks.

My grandad used to find a decent sized cedar (10'tall, more like an overgrown bush than a tree), and then work his way inside it and pick a couple of medium sized limbs and sit down straddling them.

It pushes the ends of the limbs down just a bit and gives you a nice little window out of nearly perfect concealment. Definitely not as comfortable as a chair in a ground blind. (I remember sitting that way for 5 hours as a kid and thinking I was going to die!), but it is not a bad trick for quick blind with minimal fuss, that I have used quite a few times over the years.

yep, we never hunted out of box blinds growing up..
2x4s nailed to the side of an oak tree to climb up and then sat on a 2x12 across some branches
damned it was COLD

I think I was in 16 before I ever sat in a box blind with comfortable chairs..

now we have them with heaters for when it gets SO COLD in Texas!

Best deer hunting trick I know:

Always use apple scented corn
