I used an old wine barrel, stained and painted it, and put in an electric thermostat..works great!

With my luck, I'd burn it to the ground.

got mine from a guy in Van Alstyne that makes them. Will post up his name and number once i find it. Steady 225 degrees and cant burn it down. Will last a long, long time also. Can use wood chunks or chips to create as little or as much smoke desired.

X2!

How do you keep it from burning? Could we get some details of the construction and pics of the inside?

Very cool setup!

I like that. With teenagers around you just can't have nice things though. Someone would try to use it as a fire barrel. From experience. Crap!

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

No worries! If you're handy you can make them yourself. I got online and searched different forums on how to make them. They sell them online for $700 to $800 dollars. I can't afford that, so made my own. I spent about $350 with everything new, not used. Several people liked them so I made a few and sold them for around $475. It will probably take a good weekend, since you're waiting on paint and stain to dry. The only special tools needed are sawzall and good high speed metal drill bits. The only thing I ordered was the heating element. Everything else was bought local...except or wine barrels which take some more googling to find local.

Now that is a nice smoker. What do one of those weigh? Just wondering how difficult it is to move from place to place because everyone would only want to use mine....haha
