I had a large hog come in to my feeder at 6 am this weekend. I don't have a bow light, so I propped a Primos blood-finder light on my lap so I could take a shot. The problem I had was that I could see the hog and my front sights, but I could not tell if my peep sight was lined up. Needless to say, I missed. Aside from getting a hog bow light, what can I do about the peep?

Get a brighter light. Other than that, not much can be done that I'm aware of.
I don't carry change, but I love breaking bills!

You could get a kisser button. In theory, if the kisser is hitting the same place every time the peep wouldn't matter.

Aside from getting a hog bow light, I wouldn't recommend a hog light on your bow during archery W/T season.

Aside from getting a hog bow light, I wouldn't recommend a hog light on your bow during archery W/T season. I understand that I can't use a light to hunt deer, but couldn't I use a bow light in the dark for hogs and take it off at dawn for deer? I have a red light for my rifle that I put in my backpack during daylight hours. I might have to explain myself, but I don't think it's illegal as long as I don't use it to shoot deer.

Yes you may, I'm just saying if you happen to shoot a deer with your bow, that light better not be on your bow. In the excitment of taking a deer and forgetting about the light, don't ask me how I know.

I use a small light that I mounted on my bow that shines on my pins. Got it at Academy 3 or 4 yrsw ago. It shines a blue light. The light head is about the size of a pencil but covered it with electrical tape and then punched a small pin hole in it so it just lights up my pins and not half my bow.

correct me if I am wrong, but during deer season, if you have a light with a means to take an animal (bow being the means), a game warden can still pop you for spotlighting....
please chime in.

I don't think so. It is legal to shoot hogs all year long with a spotlight. So unless you actually shoot a deer or at a deer (and get caught), I don't think they have grounds to get you.

please chime in. The OP is talking about a light for his sights. You can buy a sight that is lighted or do like I did, and fix it where it lights your pins up and nothing else.

I could see the hog and my front sights, but I could not tell if my peep sight was lined up. Needless to say, I missed. Aside from getting a hog bow light, what can I do about the peep? I re-read it again and see where you could see your pins. All I can tell ya is, if you could see your pins while at full draw and you were at your correct anchor point, you should have been looking at your pins thru your peep. What I suggest is get out and practice under the same light conditions you had with that hog and see what happens. Another thing you can do, is not even look thru the peep. Just keep both eyes open and look straight at your sight pins. Again, this takes some practice under the same light conditions.

Just to clarify, I already have a light for my pins. I plan to make a DIY hog light for my bow. As for my anchor point, I can close my eyes and draw, then open my eyes and my peep is pretty close. But in the dark, I couldn't tell if I was looking over or under my peep.

Try the "over-looking" the peep in the dark. That's the way I shot for a long time till I got a brighter light for the pins. In practice, my shots were off about 2" by just looking at the sights. So when I hunted, I adjusted to the shot and I killed a lot of hogs that way too!!

I tried some glow paint tonight on my peep sight. It did not help...in fact, it seemed to make it worse. I know I'm looking through the peep now instead of around it, but not enough light is coming through the peep to see the target well. The glow form the peep blurs it even more.
Not surprisingly, my shots tonight were all low, just like my shot on the hog this weekend.

Maybe you need to go to a bigger or different peep. I had to since my eyes aren't good as they used to be.

open the hole up on your peep. also you might need to charge the glow paint with a light.

You need to shoot a large peep. The smaller the peep the more light required to be able to see thru it. Get a 1/4" and see how much better that works for you.

I agree i had the same prob shooting pigs with bow this summer, had larger peep put in when i had my bow tuned before season opened and that fixed my problem

Spot Hogg makes a lite you screw right into your site to light up the pins...works great, helps if you own a Hogg site but I believe most sites have a place to screw in a light, about an inch long...good luck
