Hi all I am from MN and we have been coming to TX for the last 10 years to go hog hunting. We have been hearing that the numbers for hogs are down this year due to the drought. We hunt with an outfitter around Haskell TX. Is anyone able to give me any info as to the hog numbers in that area? We are planning on coming down in Jan or Feb 2013.

Thanks

Josh

There is plenty come on down. I haven't seen any difference in numbers anywhere in North Texas this year.

Last time we hunted in Haskell we killed 156, by helicopter of course w/ Ted Nugent.

More than enough to go around..........

Numbers are up in CenTex right now.
We've have some decent rains in the last few months and they are breeding like rabbits.
Just when I thought I was making a dent (HA!!...musta thought it!) I see more and more on the game and IP cams.

Got a fresh batch of spotted and stripped ones that are easy to see so they will be first to go!!

Cheers,

There is never a shortage of hogs in Texas. Anywhere. You could kill 100 a day and not make a dent.

Part of my land is in northern Haskell county. Judging by my game cam pics, there are still plenty of hogs. I bet I have had 90 pics of hogs to every 1 pic of deer. A lot of people are fooled because they are not seeing the hogs. Most of the hog pics are between 10PM and 4AM. Not much daytime activity. I have seen only two even moving in the daylight in the last 3 months and they were laying next to my feeder mid afternoon in the shade waiting on it to go off.

The drought did not do anything to the pigs, it would take something serious to reduce hog numbers. Hogs were actually one of the few things that didn't suffer because of the drought

Hey all thanks for the reply's. We hunt with Krooked River near Haskell. We are still trying to figure out when we are exactly going to come down. My work isn't getting my schedule out for next year so its kinda holding up the works. Hopefully have it figured out in the next month or so.
