Does anyone own a Boss Buck feeder? If so which size do you have and how do you like it? I am considering buying the 600 or 1200 pound automatic versions that Bass Pro and Cabela's have and just wanted to get some hunters feedback. Thanks

I've got 3 of the 1200 lbs. Bought them back after the first of the year to feed protein and now have changed them over to feed corn. I like them because I do not need to make so many trips to the ranch, it's 4 hours away. Because it takes a lot of bags to fill one up I bought a feeder loader and it really helps. Bought mine from their store in Seagovilole. They are easy to take down and transport just be careful cause I have them staked down with t-posts and if you are using a ladder to fill them up there have been reports of folks falling off and impailing themselves.

They are great feeders. Check the prices and see if the 1,200 isn't twice the capacity for just a little more money. 600s are good feeders too, just that the big one is a little better value.
Tom backs his products up also.

The feeder worked well but the Boss Buck timer was a POS. Worked for 2 days and then locked up showing 77777 across the read out.

The feeder worked well but the Boss Buck timer was a POS. Worked for 2 days and then locked up showing 77777 across the read out. Were all at the mercy of china for those timers and I think they upgraded the ones they use. Buddy of mine bought 3 protein and 3 corn all were 1,200lbs modles. They have worked non-stop for almost 2 years, big improvement over the steel ones he bought from a south texas dealer. He bought 12 steel feeders from a WELL known south texas supplier and ALL of them leaked, he had to shovel out thousands of pounds of molded portein and corn then reseal them, and they still had moisture issue from when the steel sweated as the temp changed. Also with the boss buck if one gets blown over or knocked over by cows the hopper doesnt dent, they make a good product and stand by them.

I use and sell boss buck feeders and love them.
As for the timers about 3 years ago they had some problems with them that were really bad but would replace them with a phone call. They have that fixed now and they are all i will use.

It's weird I was just thinking of getting one of these and saw the topic.....my question is it seems very cost efficient to buy the 1200lb one and change from free choice protein to spinner thru the season.....but when you change to the spinner, is there a corn/protein mixture that you use so the deer still have the protein thru the winter? I am researching it now but thought I would ask.

IMO, I would not use a corn/protein mixture with the spinner as I believe it would clog up.

The spin set up won't clog with protein than any other feeder. If it was me, I would use something besides protein pellets. Protein fines will eventually work their way into the area around your motor shaft and sooner or later you will burn up the motor or your timer will go nutz trying to get the motor to spin. The other part of that is even on a 30 second spin you aren't throwing enough protein to feed even one deer to make it worthwhile. Solar panel will have a tough time keeping up with a series of 30 second spins.
Those feeders, while great, are meant to feed free choice or as spin units. If you want to spin something high in protein consider soy beans or something else that will throw better than pellets. jmo.

After my research I figured I will use the free choice shaft until fall, with a soy/pellet mix, then I will attach the spinner for a soy/corn mix. Having the soy as a constant should help with the transition from seasons. With a mineral supplement as a constant also. We will see how well the Boss Buck feeder holds up! Thanks guys!!
