Any and all tips and info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Don't overbow yourself. I would start out with a bow in the 40# - 45# range. Takes a lot of practice, but I find its a lot more fun to shoot than a compound. Its also nice to go hunting and not worry about forgetting something - the recurve or longbow is so much simpler. If you forget your shooting glove you can still shoot with bare fingers.

Mudman speaks truth. It requires a whole new mindset. Get with someone who shoots trad bows, there's a little tuning that needs to be done with your arrows, but it's easy once you know what you're doing. Give me a shout any time.

Yes "Don't overbow yourself" made that mistake and just realized it this year. My second bow came with two sets of limbs so I now shoot the 50#... and wish I had 45# for practice.
Were all here, cuz were not all there !

Having a long bow made for me right now. Can't wait to get it but he said it will be 2-3 months. Will be my first traditional adventure!

Any and all tips and info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! I have been wanting to do the same. Maybe find a trade for one or get a custom bow made for myself.

I hunted for 30 years with a compound, and shot competitively for a while. I switched back to traditional about 10 years ago. The thing is.....after I quit shooting tournaments with the compound....I would shoot it rarely. With traditional equipment, I will shoot my longbow or recurve every day if I can. It gets in your blood, at least it sure got in mine. I hope you enjoy traditional as much as I do. I think you will. Good luck.

Its the most exciting thing to hunt with imo. I shot a pretty big buck with a compound earlier in the season and just seeing a doe walk in when I had the recurve got me more excited than he did and I could barely keep my composure on him.

I hunt with trad gear only, I shoot as much as possible. The biggest thing in hunting with a recurve is setting limits for yourself. Long shots are out of the question, it makes you be a better hunter. You have to set up on trails or close to feeders if that's how you hunt. I like 15-18 yrds, I can shoot good groups out to 30 but would rarely shoot past 25 yrds at a deer. It is very rewarding to kill with trad gear and I don't see myself hunting with a compound anytime soon if ever again. Find someone close to you that shoots trad and get started with someone that can help you out.
