I have a 93 GMC 2500 4x4 with a standard transmission. It is a truck transmission with L 123 and OD. I am tired of shifting gears so I am kicking around the idea of swapping it out for an auto probably a 700r4.
My question is this. Will an auto transmission connect to the current transfer case? Will I have to change out the drive shaft? I just want to know if it is feasible without spending more than the truck is worth.

IIRC if the tranny comes from a 4wd you will be ok but will have to replace the drive shaft. Just call up well known tyranny shop. They will know.

Well since I owned a 1994, I know that they arent worth just a whole lot. NO it is not worth your while, sell the truck and buy an auto.

It can be done. But it will take a tranny with a 4x4 tail shaft and end housing. The tailshaft is the first part to go into the tranny case before you start stacking the rest of the parts.
The drive shafts might be the same for auto and manual. Don't forget a flex plate. Cuz standards take a flywheel, autos take a flex plate. (Good time to change the rear main if it's leaking)
I'am not sure about 93 GMC. I mainly mess with Ford. So take into account the speedo gear that might be different between the trannys. And all the linkage that might be needed.

Oh. I forgot, you may need to replace BOTH drive shafts.....and yes, the flex plate. The linkage is no bug deal if you HK with an aftermkt floor shifter.
I have to agree that you would be better off just getting another truck. It would cost you about the same as the swap.

Ive done it and going from auto to manual is challenging but manual to auto was a breeze, I would put a 4l80 in it though
