Follow me here. A lot of today's hunters are smartphone users. The technology exists currently to transfer images from an SD card to iPhone via wi-fi connection with a small card reader. If this technology was merged with a trail cam, hunters would be able to sit in their stand, log on to their camera's wi-fi (battery powered) and open a free app on their phone to get access to photos and videos. You would be able to delete/view, so you'd never have to disturb your hunting area to get SD cards. What do you think???

Field net does not use an app as an interface. This would be the key difference. An app that isn't an FTP client that is a smooth go-between. Maybe even have the camera settings accessible as well. You could change your camera settings from the app as well.

The others besides the field net require Internet connection or cellular plan. This would not.

Wi-Fi would be push button remote triggered so it would only be on when you need it.

I don't think this system will transfer straight to phone via app, but I may be wrong.

Came across this. Seems like it's close to what you are trying to describe.

anything with wi-fi i feel would need some sort of subscription to be able to get any connection. i think a product made to use bluetooth would be much more effective IMO

It would have no monthly payment or startup cost. Although, the cam would have to be wifi capable, much like the FieldNet cams.

Although it may be possible to have an adapter that hooks into the USB outlet of existing cams... Hadn't thought of that

I use an adapter with my iPad and log my pictures there. I only check the camera once every couple of weeks so I don't disturb the area. If I didn't go check my camera I wouldn't have a good enough excuse for the wife to get out of the house, plus half of the fun for me is going out and checking the camera and looking for activity.

Here are some other cellular options to what you are wanting to do:

One of the issues I would expect you to run into with trying to implement wifi through an app on a phone would be transfer time of that large amount of data(pics and/or videos), probably over 1GB on average. It's going to take awhile, plus drain your phone battery during the process. For me personally, if my phone is dead in the woods, that's a big problem since we pretty much text back and forth with everyone else in the woods to see who's seeing what and where.

Good Luck.
