It's tough call . I am on a first year place with long term goals. I would let him walk.

Shoot the spike, of course. If you like the other buck, take him. Don't be surprised though if you don't see him again. Darn neighbors.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

I don't know what to do. I am torn. I do have long term goals but you never know what will happen with a property. The owner is aging. I been burned on leases before when the owner passed and the land was sold the next year. I think I will make a game time situation call!

They look mighty young to me. I'd let 'em walk.

Nice to see another Nocona hunter. We have a place near snow's marina. Looks like a fame day decision.

I just got on a small tract lease (150 acres) in Nocona. Are the pics you posted typical of the deer in that area?
My lease is on the east side of the lake. I have to go in to the gated golf community to get access to the property. This is a first for me, but I guess my gear and camper will be safe. I'm getting a late start this year and will be setting up camera and feeders. Hopefully, I'll get to meet some of the neighboring leases to get a gauge on their management goals.

I'd take the tall 8. Good deer, and I'd say is 5.5 years old this year. Those deer are different there. Light colored, and bigger bodied than most parts of the state.

I'd wait till the rut to make my decision. Nice looking bucks. This. From hearing Montague county reports in years past (not many years as I am new to this stuff too, so take this with a grain of salt) the deer stay pretty nocturnal up there, especially within the season. You may or may not see the same deer, and the rut may bring some different ones in. Use the pics as a guide and hopefully you can see the same deer, but in the end, all you have is your judgment and don't let anybody on here or anywhere else tell you a buck you are proud of isn't good enough because it is too young or not big enough.

Agree.
There are times I see a deer on camera, never to see him. Those deer seem to cover a lot of ground.
We have 1 that is on camera, but no one has ever seen him in person.

Sorry for resurrecting a post from last year. I was just trying to get a gauge on the types of deer in the area. I've never hunted in this part of the state - mostly East Texas and near Stephenville.

Good lord guys. This thread is from last fall. Haha. I didn't realize that until you said this. Now, I'm laughing my [censored] off.
If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.
