Here's the dilemma, I have agreat place to hunt in Oklahoma on my wife's families property, however this year because of work conflicts I can only hunt three days of the 16 day gun season. That's $300 on a tag and only three days to fill it for the year, or I could buy a archery tag and start hunting now as I have time around our football schedule and have an extended season. Only problem there is I have come up empty handed with archery tags up there two of the last three seasons. Just curious as to what others would do in the same situation. Buying both is not an option as we have an 11 month old and he is priority.

Take your chance with the three days in rifle season.

I'd do three day during rifle season and I'd a lot of scouting during bow season.

I hunt Oklahoma and hunt archery 99%
Rut is normally right before ml so..... Best season is archery only...if the rut is later then you can still hunt it with a bow...same with rifle

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

For what it's worth I do have a place to hunt here in Texas close by although we have only harvested one deer in three years in that place. The Oklahoma place is only a 30 minute drive for me so I can make it up there often it just so happens that we have a crazy schedule during gun season this year.

I would find property on the Thanksgiving Doe Weekend to hunt. Same in state license, same amount of days to hunt, much cheaper!

Scout now and hunt rifle later. If the bow opportunities start to look good between now and Nov 16, you can always change your plan and get the bow tag instead.

I checked my schedule and you guessed it. I can hunt the whole rifle season for you and leave you archery. Deal?
