I Have a 2 yr old GSP that I got about a year ago and I would like to see how he points on wild birds. Does anyone have a place that they hunt with a good population of wild birds that wouldn't mind letting me and my pup come out and run around for an afternoon? Any advice would really help.

I would let you but the quail are paired up and will be laying here real soon if not already. A bird dog will play hell on nests and baby quail. Get back to me in the fall and I have a place you can run your dog on. It's only 150 acres but it has a good population of birds.

I know my GSP has a 1/2 brother that she would love to chase (point) a few quail with this fall.

Oh and BTW...it will probably be the first time ever in the history of ever that, that place isn't deer hunted on. Guess what that means...yep, quail hunting during deer season this year!

If we don't get some rain, which we haven't, you won't be doin' either one!! If you're not going to deer hunt. From all the reports we now have some pairs as TCH mentioned but we're in danger of loosing the habitat which will cause the chicks to die out along with the pairs. My2cents

Rain, has become an interesting concept in many areas of the state.

While we were on our adventure this past Sunday, I was thuroughly amazed that some areas we went thru were lush and green, and the stcock tanks all full, while 30 to 50 miles away, in another part of the same county, the vegetation appeared to be in good shape, by stock ponds I have never seen go dry, were either dry or nearly so.

Before we left Sun. morning, we had what I thought was a really good rain just before daylight.

When I went out to check the stock after daylight, it had rained less than 1/2 inch.

Well, this is from the horses mouth. All I know is in Coleman and surrounding counties its really dry. Burn ban is in effect. Pastures look like they did two seasons ago with little or no food for the quail and turkey. Water, got an ample supply at this time. But it takes more than water. Doesn't look good for us here again for quail. I guess we'll sell more deer and doves and varmits. Oh, fishin' is good also.

Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy.
