Mossberg maverick hands down! If your talking about the best gun that you can take duck hunting have it go bang 3 times and keep working even in the mud rain or cold Mossberg 500. Its not the nicest by far but it is the cheapest. I've got the 535 and I got it because the price was right and the gun fit me better than an 870. I've been happy with it the last 3 years I've had issues with it when I don't clean it for a year and it likes to jam certain brands of shells in the chamber and not extract. I'm going to try the emory cloth and see if it fixes it. It kills ducks and it didn't cost very much so I think that makes it a good value for the money.

You fellows don't understand old. I have a Remington 29 and Remington 31, plus a High Standard. They have been in rain, snow, mud and served double as paddles. I can't wear them out. Two of them have the adjustable chokes. These guns were designed back when a man was lucky to own one shotgun and it had to fire every time, all day long, in all weather.

these post are great. everyone has the brand they love and everyone has the brand they hate. all brands FTF or jam or dont kick out the empty. I dont care if you are talking rifle, pistol, or shotgun. buy the gun you want. period. I just bought a beretta 3901. I love it, it fits me well and I shoot really good with it. Now as fate would have it...It had some problems with the sear on the trigger. I had to send it in and get it fixed...does that mean I dont like it? heck no I still love it. S*&T happens with all makes and models. buy the gun you want that fits you well. If you think all guns FTF or don't eject, then you haven't been buying the right guns buddy. Ok buddy. Tell me what brand of gun tha has never failed to fire or eject just one time? tell me that?

Ok buddy. Tell me what brand of gun tha has never failed to fire or eject just one time? tell me that? In over 20 years, my original 870 Express Magnum has never failed to fire or eject. There have been some operator errors and I had a double feed once when I took the plug out of the magazine for a late goose hunt, though.

I like 870's. I have a remmy wingmaster that was made in the 70's that works perfect. I have a Remington 870 express 20 gauge for my wife that isn't near the quality of craftsmanship, but it still preformed for her needs. (a few dove hunts and clay shoots a year).
Another cheapo gun I've had great success with is Winchester 1300's. Thing probably hasn't been cleaned in years and still works good.

These 870's have gone down hill in my honest opinion and the one I have was a problem child when i got it new, but with the correction/mods I have made to it when I have it in my hands it becomes a part of me. If a gun could be your best friend I reckon this one is my best friend. Like I said earlier I bought her new in 06 but since then with mods and time at the clays range and time in the hunting enviroment this one has become something special to me.......

Tell me what brand of gun tha has never failed to fire or eject just one time? tell me that? Oh, I didn't realize that you were making such an obvious statement as to say that it is possible to get a particular gun from any brand that will have problems. Yes, with firearms, like any other product, it is possible to have a lemon. The way you said "buy the gun you want" implies that all brands are equal, however, and that is simply not true. Yes any company could potentially make a crappy gun, but you are far less likely to have trouble with a Nova, for example, than a Remington 887. Could you get a crappy Nova? Sure. More than likely, though, your Nova will never fail you. With an 887 on the other hand, just the opposite is true.

Remington 1100. Never has jam for me. Reliable in the mud. Spits out steel accurately with the right choke.

I love my 870 but its an older model +1,but mine is 44 years old. Broke a firing pin at 37. Just replaced both shell latches. This is with a LOT of use and abuse.

I agree that every gun is going to have some jams or whatever. The important thing is how often those happen. If it happens once every 100 or more shots that's ok but if you are having issues every hunt that's problem.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!
