Is it just me or has Wal-Mart stepped up their ammo selection?

I recently moved from Plano to Austin and before I moved from Plano I noticed the Wal-Mart at Ohio & 121 had

1. federal premium .270,30-06 & 300win Nosler partitions
2. Winchester powermax bonded hollow points
3. Winchester Balistic silver tips (not my favorite)

And several other things that I thought were well out of their usualy Remington Corelokt/Winchester power point selection...and this store didnt even sell guns.

I move to Austin and the Wal-Mart by my place doest sell guns either...BUT had

Federal Premium Rifle
Winchester razorback XT .223 &.308
Winchester power max
Winchester balistic silver tips(again not my favorite)
and several other selections of good hunting ammo on top of their regular assortment.

What really caught me off gaurd was the amount of handgun and other ammo

420rnd can of 5.56 M855 penetrators
no less than 6 brands of .223/556
Just as many kinds of 7.62x39 (including winchest power points?
winchester silver tip hollow points in 45acp,9mm,380 & 40
Federal hydrashok hollow points
Remington golden saber JHP
and a ton of cheap plinking ammo jhs, privi part, tula, WWbox and more....

I do not buy my hunting ammo at walmart but that was mainly because it was Corelokt or Powerpoints only back in the day.

I applaud their additions, and have just recently noticed it.

Wal-Mart is carrying more ammo for sure. Some Wal-Marts have also started carrying more guns as well. Wal-Marts that sell guns have a book that they will order guns for customers out of. As long as it's in the book they'll order it. I've order a couple of guns thru them on Monday and received them by Thursday.

You pretty much have to get out of any immediate metro area to find one that sells guns. There even a few that don't sell ammo.

Never seen any Federal Premium Nosler Partitions at either of the stores in Denton. The new store that opened last year doesn't sell guns, but the older one still does.

Some Wal-Marts even sell reloading supplies. Not sure but I think it was the Brady Wal-Mart I was in when I seen that.

In case you fellows were unaware, Walmart has a catalog with about any hunting firearm you could want that they will order for
you at a reduced price..Only thing is, mfg's warranty only and must be prepaid..but this should help some in some areas..that want a quality weapon at a good price..DD

If I were to venture a guess why the ammo selection has stepped up, it would be because hunting seasons are starting up.

I don't know what the had this time last year, but I know it has stepped up since June.

I bought some Federal Premium Nosler Partitions in 3006 on close out there for $6 a box. They still shoot the best in my rifle and that is all I shoot.

Cant find a better price on 45 acp than Wal-mart. I like the display that you can stand in front and see what they instead of having to find a clerk to see what they have.

It seems to me they are carrying more ammo. I had been avoiding the place but have been going back there for oil change supplies and for ammo.

The one on 75 and Spring Creek sells guns and one can order from the catalog too.

The Walmart at Ohio and 121 ammo selection is not best in town.
N Garland and 190 probably has one of the best in DFW area.

The closest one to me has a good selection of ammo, and sells a limited amount of firearms. Now finding someone who works there with the keys to open the ammo cabinet... That's another story. I've walked out twice after waiting for someone to come back there that never showed up. Even had the store manager back there with me. No keys though, so out of luck. They couldn't locate the person with the keys, even after calling for them on the radio.

All the best,
Glenn

If at first you don't succeed, buy newer/better equipment.

I had exactly this same situation. Really annoying when you can see the ammo you want, but can't find anyone to get it for you.
