What is the top 3 ducks that taste the best and the bottom 2 for worst. I know this is a very opinionated question but I like to see if one rises to the top more than any other.

They all taste the same if properly marinated and not overcooked.

The only duck that really tastes bad is a Spoonbill that has spent time in the coastal marshes.

Once you remove all of the pretty feather colors from the duck breast, they all are delicious and there is not much difference in taste.

Teal are like a larger dove

Any diver or spoonie unless it's in gumbo or stew

They are all really good when prepared correctly

Soak in milk with ice for 12-24 hours

Drain, rinse and replace with seasoned maronaid of liking

Soak for 12-24 hours

Cook to MEDIUM, NOT MED WELL, over cooking makes its tuff and dry

Pintail is the best tasting duck. #1 ahead of them all if you ask me. And pintail ages the best. 2nd wood duck, then teal, then widgeon.

Bottom 2 are spoonie and ringer. You guys don’t tell me they all tastes the same, you clean a mess of ringer and you will stink. You can blind fold me and I can tell what is a spoonie and ringer, and although I think gadwall is ok duck it has a unique smell and taste. If you guys can’t tell the difference in tastes you have dull taste buds.

Well i will probably lose my THF membership over this, but i just dont get the ringer and spoonie bashing. I eat them with no issue anytime i shoot them. And i love shooting ringers and spoonies....and just about any other duck. I'll eat them all.
If i had to choose a top 3 of ones i have had;
- teal
- gadwall
- mallard

Here is a list of prices for different ducks. You can see by the ones with a higher price which ducks were thought to be the most palatable

Best tasting duck: Squealers! Especially if they have been eating acorns.

Worste tasting duck: I don't think there's one in particular. I've eaten so many Hollywoods that I've dulled my senses. Add enough bacon and jalapenos and anything will taste good.

I wouldn't even put a merganser in sausage.

I try not to shoot spoonies and jacks because mud stomping is illegal.

My favorite ducks to eat are teal (blue and green wing) and wood ducks.

Mergansers are rock bottom, I accidentally shot a few and have tried everything with them, and still can't make them edible. Divers like bufflehead are only marginally better.

Shovelers get a bad rap, they aren't great, but in my mind they rank just below mallard and well above most diving ducks.
