I have used the Smith's stone and diamond stone sharpening kit for years. The blade clamps in a handheld vice and you can put a 20 degree or 25 degree angle on the blade. It has worked very well for all my hunting and hosehold knives.

Get a Lansky system, diamond stones, and add the coarse stones. Razor sharp.

It has worked very well for all my hunting and hosehold knives. Been using that system for over 20 years. It's foolproof (yup, even I can't manage to mess it up) and gets knives SUPER sharp, especially if you strop the blade with leather afterwards. Here lately, I've started using Lansky's "Crock Sticks" and they work VERY well too.

I have used stones, diamond eze lap on others for years with great results. But the other day I stopped at a gun store in Buffalo and they had a Benchmade pocket sharpener that uses very hard cross plates on one end and has a diamond stick on the other. Total lenght is about three inches, this thing works great and fast even on those hard Benchmade blades even tried it on the wifes fancy kitchen knifes with goo results. You can look at them on Benchmade websight.
If you focus on your family, your friends, the needs of others, your work and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you!

I've got one of these and it's pretty good. If you want the absolute best that you can get, look into a Wicked Edge Precision Sharpener. It isn't cheap, but my knives aren't either. WEPS

Looks like a Lansky knockoff for five times the price. There's no comparison. WEPS is much more precise.

I also have the Warthog & it is my go to device to put an edge back on but if I need to take some metal off I use the Lansky.

Get a Lansky system, diamond stones, and add the coarse stones. Razor sharp. X2! I bought my lansky system when I was 15. I am now 39 and still using the same one. I have used others in the meantime, and it is still the best one. Speaking of, I think I have a few blades tha need sharpening. Goodbye!

I sharpen my carving chisels on sandpaper, then hone them on leather strop. Razor sharp with a polished edge. The first time 220 grit for bad blades, then 320 grit, next 400 grit, then 600 grit, finally 800 grit. After the first, I rarely have to use anything except the strop. If I really mess up a blade, usually 600 and 800 grit fixes it for the strop. All you need is a flat surface and sandpaper, I use wet dry paper from an auto body shop.
I use the same system for my knives, you could probably dry shave with them, but I wouldn't.
