I know I'm going to ruffle some feathers with this....but I honestly do not care. I am absolutely astonished at how many of you claim to drink while hunting.
I love a cold beer or a cocktail as much as the next guy....but you will NEVER catch me drinking an alcoholic beverage during the hunt. There is just no excuse for that. Too many risks and liabilities....just wait till you get back to camp. And if you can't do that, then you need help with your drinking problem.
Drinking while hunting (or actively shooting guns) is absurd and completely unacceptable. I am glad you said this because I was thinking the same thing.... +2

I let hunters drink a few before hunting mainly becasue it calmed their nerves..and thats not trying to be funny i didnt want them missing or wounding an animal and it worked well. Now while im hunting mainly rifle/shotgun/bowfishing ha ill put um down

You can laugh all you want....but there is a reason that EVERY reputable outfitter has written into their contract/waiver, something along the lines of "once you take a drink of alcohol (no matter how little), your hunting/shooting for the day is over".
Someone please explain to me why it would EVER be a good idea to be intoxicated while you're shooting a gun.

If you can't handle yourself after 1-2 beers then maybe YOU shouldn't have a drink while in the blind. No one here is suggesting that you bring a 12 pack or a kegger into the blind with you and get absolutely smashed, that's retarded. There is a difference between drinking a beer or two while sitting in the stand and getting "intoxicated while shooting a gun."

There is a difference between drinking a beer or two while sitting in the stand and getting "intoxicated while shooting a gun." Well you might think that no one is suggesting that....but I guarantee you plenty of people on this forum have finished off at least 5 or 6 in the blind in one sitting. I've been in a lot of deer camps and I've seen a lot of idiots get COMPLETELY SMASHED while hunting!! I've seen guys start drinking at lunch and not stop till they go to bed....and by the time they get back from the stand in the evening, they can barely carry a conversation. I have also personally witnessed TWO accidental (negligent) discharges from people who were INTOXICATED. One of these gentleman shot a hole through the engine of his F-250 when trying to get his 30-06 out the window to shoot a hog. Once you've seen people act like total jackasses with alcohol and guns together....it leaves a bad taste in your mouth and you'd rather just not mix the two. Don't take it as me saying that drinking is bad....not at all. I drink alcohol....just not while I'm hunting or shooting. It's very simple. There is NO REASON to EVER drink while you're hunting. There's plenty of time after the hunt in the evening to drink back at camp, after the guns have been put away.

cheese, pretzels, dried cranberries mainly
Also have to agree with previous posts: ALCOHOL HAS NO PLACE BEORE OR WHILE HUNTING!!! After the hunt when firearms have been put away- NO PROBLEM!
