COUNTY IN HOG OUT PROGRAM
(SEPTEMBER 26TH, 2012)
The Texas Department of Agriculture is once again encouraging Washington County to rid the state and county of wild hogs.
Precinct Two County Commissioner says that the county is offering bounties for those who kill or trap feral hogs. The program begins on October first and runs through December 31st. The Texas Hog Out Program is an effort from the Texas Department of Agriculture to cut the feral or wild hog population in the state. Farmers and ranchers have an incentive to kill as many hogs as they can, so they can receive a five dollar bounty. Washington County can then get a grant from the Agriculture Department if the county is one of the top five five counties in eliminating feral hogs. Last year, Washington County finished thirteenth.

$5 for a set of ears, my neighbors son received a really nice jacket last year when they organized this. You also have an option to turn in live hogs at various locations around the county.(listed on form) I will let you know when they set up the location, Last year it was KC Hall on FM 577 in Brenham, if my memory serves me right it was always a Sunday afternoon check in. here is a copy of the check in form from 2011 http://www.co.washington.tx.us/ips/expor...cation_Form.pdf

hell yeah, heck I think id give 2$ fior every one killed withing a 10 mile radius of my place LOL. Hate them things, I had a nice 10 point on camera every day morning and night and then they showed back up and we havent seen him in 10 days on camera and about 50 pigs every day. Time to break out the AR when I have a chance to get down there.

is there a list of participaitng counties http://texasagriculture.gov/GrantsServic...antProgram.aspxI guess you will need to contact your county comissioners and get them to apply. They dont have a current list available for this year but the list from last year is on the website above. i would assume that the same counties that were involved last year are participating this year.

is there a list of participaitng counties Some of these counties are offering $2 for their frozen tails you would have to check with your County Auditors office for details of the turn in location. Austin Burnet Caldwell Callahan Chambers Clay Collin Coryell Edwards Ellis Fannin Fayette County Commissioners add 3 dollars to make bounty $5 Fort Bend Goliad Haskell Hays Houston Jefferson Maverick Montgomery Newton Schleicher Sutton Terrell Val Verde Washington Bounty is for both ears $5 Williamson Wilson

The way I read it is those counties listed are only participating counties that are going to keep track of hogs killed, thus putting their county name into the hat, making the county eligeable for grant money, but only a few are paying out bounties so don't get your hopes up too high! They might be thinking it would be cheaper to pay the landowner to keep records instead of paying individuals a bounty. Landowner would then get paid twice, once by the hunter and then again by the state. I hope that won't be the case, but there needs to be incentive somewhere.

Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
