I don't know why wouldn't u get a 10/22?
I put it on my list. For what I would "need" my 22lr to do in this scenario, it's more than sufficient. Yeh but if you could only have one 22lr in your life, wouldn't you choose something more refine? No I wouldn't Neither would I. I guess I'm looking at this through my SHTF goggles so refinement and aesthetics are very low, if not non-existent, on my list. This topic is about owning only 5 firearms. The way I understand it, it’s not necessarily focused on surviving the apocalypse. Now at night, when I’m sipping a nice single malt whisky (I hope I’m not limited to 5 bottles in my lifetime  ), I would much rather look, hold, handle and admire an Anschutz Classic Meister Grade instead of a 10/22. I'll also have an AR for when SHTF.

Accurate .22, say a Marlin 39
Dependable 12 gauge, perhaps a double or pump
Accurate deer rifle, .243 for Texas; ,308 or larger if i lived further north.

Ruger 10-22 , + 5K+ rounds ammo & lots of clips. If I could only own one firearm. Good for gettin' groceries & self defense including zombies..
357 revolver 6", prefer Smith 686. Common ammo, big punch for hogs, medium to large (in a pinch) game , zombies and drug crazed attackers. One shot from a .357 may save 3+ rounds 22 LR.
Remington 700 bolt in 30-06. I shoot .270 but would choose 30-06 for more common ammo. For bigger game, and long range deterrence of attackers, especially pirates.
12 gauge pump shotgun with some slug ammo, and 00 ammo, as well as #8 shot for birds. Diverse selection of ammo handles all short range situations.
.38 Snub nose revolver. Surprise.

Thought about a 100000 times. Cant do it in 5 guns, maybe catergories.
1. 2 -1911 45, 1-glock 45, 1-9mm, 1-40, 1-22 revolver
2. Ar-15, sig 556, 2-aks
3. Pump 12
4. 30-06
5. 22 rifle.
All the ammo the wife and kids could carry.
