I shot 2-4 doves in about 3 hours Saturday.

You are one lucky man. Get the wife hooked on hunting and you can spend all your money on hunting and she won't complain. Priceless nice to see the whole family get involved in hunting.

This year has been way better than the past 4. I've made 11 hunts and have killed 152 birds. Best year before this year was 62 birds in 2009 in 12 hunts.
But to be fair we don't do anything for the doves. Famer grows cotton only and then runs cattle in pasture and has some CRP. So doves have been hit or miss the last few years.
This year we are hammering them at this one place. I hunted one afternoon for an hour without seeing a bird, moved to another spot and limited in 30 minutes. Now I've been back to that second spot twice since and haven't killed a dove. Both times went back to this location and got a limit. Quickest limit was 25 minutes the Sunday after opening weekend. Nearly every other hunt its been 45 mins to 1 hour. I've limited out here every hunt except the first 2 days.
The kids are sure gobbling up those dove nuggets dipped in white gravy.

Wife doesn't hunt. She's from a hunting family, so she understands. We've been together for 15 years, this is about the 4th time she has come hunting with me, only 2nd since we've been married. Think her last time out hunting with me was a duck hunt in 2006. Got her to wear oversized waders and she even helped put out decoys, pick them up, and pulled a sled back to the boat. She will kill me if she knew I posted this on here, but I love it. But yes, I do agree I'm a very lucky man:

I do agree, that I would be happy to have 2-4 birds come in every 15 minutes every day of the season.
Notice I didn't say I was shooting 2-4 birds every 15 minutes, just would see 2-4 birds every 15 minutes or so. This hunt was the slowest hunt of the year, but probably better than any single hunt I've had in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Is that duck potatoe where your wife is walking?
Probably was. This WMA was usually covered in it. But one tropical storm or hurricane with a huge influx of saltwater would usually destroy it. Not sure if the saltwater would kill it, if the current would rip out all of the vegetation, or if silt would cover it. But one big storm and the place would go from vegetation galore to bare sandbars. Was a duck hunters heaven. Hundreds of thousands of acres of public duck hunting habitat. Enough room that you could almost always get away from everyone else. Although it didn't always stop them from coming find you and setting up 100 yards away. In this pic we were leaving at low tide. Typically there would be 6" to 1' of water on average tide, maybe a couple feet at high tide.
