I went out to Garland's public gun range to sight in my 7mag. very nice people out there. I was there just before noon and it was not bussy.I live in Mesquite and will never go back to Gibsons in Mesquite.

I was there last week. I will be going to Gibsons next time because they still have the 30+ caliber restriction in place.

What does that mean? You can't shoot a 270 there?

He said 30 caliber that would be .308, 30-06, 300 win, 338, 45 50,,, your 270 is smaller than 30 caliber so you would be okay.

no 30-06? How big is the range?

I don't know the exact max length, but I think they are having some legal issues and have been limited to shooting cartridges less than 30 cal out there.

Garland is a 100 yard max range. They are going through legal issues because of a so-called "stray bullet" that struck a home in a nearby neighborhood. Situation was a little fishy. But not knowing all the details, I can't say for sure what supposedly happened.

They were/are being forced to make their berms taller and reinforce them. I talked to them about it late last week and they said they hope to have it resolved by the end of the month but until then, a judge ordered that no .30 cal and up be fired at the range.

Yup. The range didn't set these restrictions; a judge did.

I have been hearing those same type of things all year. All those dates came and passed and still no end to the ban. I doubt it will be any different this time either.

I like the people at Garland alot but it doesnt take this long to get some permits to re-build a berm and move some power lines. Yes it does take some money but dang sure not this long. This time next year I hope to be a member at a private range where I dont have to deal with all the BS.

What private range do ya have in mind? Im interested.

Terrell range is very nice and has good shotgun rifle and pistol facilities. You have to be sponsored by a current member to join. Last I heard they were restricting the number of new members. Just a long way to go to shoot, at least for me.

It wasnt just one stray bullet it was a few. But if they were from the range then they were intentionally shot over the berm

if you are willing to drive there is a nice one just outside buffalo, has covered concrete benches and goes out to 200 yards. you have to buy a membership or day pass from buffalo sporting goods in buffalo

I do no even want to drive to Elm Fork. Sure not going drive to Buffalo but thanks anyway.

I took my re-cert for CHL at the Terrell gun range. It's a nice place. It's out in the sticks. The place is located off of FM549, northeast of Terrell and southeast of Quinlan.

Closer to me then Elm Fork. I thought Terrell was private.

Terrell is private. They are a CMP affiliated club, AND host NRA highpower matches out there. It's a great place to go shoot and qualify for your CMP M1 Garand. The folks out there can walk you through the process.

Once you've gotten friendly with some of the shooters, getting an invitation to join should not be dificult.

I just need to sight in 2 rifles for the season. One is new and one I just put a scope on. I thought I saw someone wrote about some where in Royse City.

Finally got through to Garland on the phone. 30 cal. ban is still in place. No time table on lifting. He said he was turning them away. Not looking forward to next several weeks. Looks like Gibson's or Elm Fork.
