I have used to 60 grain Nosler Partition and the 65 grain Sierra GameKing on pigs with great success. H335 with the Partitions and Reloader 15 for the GameKings.

Hey Cruseter - Are you going to be taking only headshots at the hogs?
What distance do you estimate that you will be taking your average shot from?

If you want to eat them, I'd say Head or Neck, but if it's just to remove a pest, no matter..FMJ cheap junk will kill the heck out of them wherever you hit them..DD

Dependa on the bullet profile. 75gr siroccos work but a-max is too long profile for working in a pmag. Looks like they will work in a steel mag though.

Believe it or not, a 55 Grain V-Max will kill hogs. Done it many times. Hogs aren't super living animals. A bullet that goes in 6-8" will kill them.

Yep, a 55 gr Vmax will kill pigs, but it isn't the bullet I'd choose. If you want to go with 55 grains, I'd suggest the Sierra Gameking. That's a 55 grainer that'll penetrate, and it isn't expensive and it isn't as explosive as the Vmax and the Ballistic Tip. That said, I used 55 gr Ballistic Tips on pigs and it wasn't the right 'solution'. I switched to the 60 gr Partition and it worked great, but I switched again to the 65 gr Sierra GK and that bullet is really a good one.
Now somebody is going to pipe up and say that you can "shoot em in the head or neck with just about anything". That's true, but from personal experience, sometimes you just don't get a good clear standing shot at the head or neck. Sometimes, or heck, everytime you shoot the first one, the second one is hauling some pig butt and forget that neck shot. That Partition or Gameking (or a few other bullets not named) will give you the penetration you need to drop that running pig at 100 yards (if you can hit him). So try the Sierra 55 gr (or 65 gr) Gameking. Relatively inexpensive and very very accurate. The better type bullets (for any given situation) will give you more margin for error, and most all of us can use that extra margin from time to time.

If you can put the bullet in the ear it won't matter what kind it is and they will fall where they are standing. That being said I like the partition for your intended use.

although ive never shot anything with the 65 grain SGK it does shoot very well out of my 1:9, 16" ar under varget. From everything ive read it will stay together good and was designed for larger game like deer. I plan on deer hunting with my AR this year for the heck of it.
I have shot many pigs with 55 grain FMJ UMC's, in fact I never lost a hog with a FMJ! This was all with my Mini-14 on a ranch I was able to hunt. I killed over 20 hogs in 2 years and the farthest one ran was 50 yards. My experience with with the FMJ was that they would break up and be in the opposite side ribgage in many little pieces.

Hornady 55gr soft points are deadly. I reload but havent started reloading 223 yet. I buy theses from DRS reloaded and havent lost a hog yet, even large ones.

In my 22-250 w/ a 1 in 14 twist I load a Barnes 55 grain part 22444 and get 3810fps on the chrony..I've killed hogs, deer, varmits, ect..and never recovered a projectile..My son killed a 300+ lb Axis with it w/35inX29in horns in Tarpley..The Barnes are the only projectiles I use hunting these days..and I've used about all of the major mfg's products with varying results..but I like not tracking the animals...and the hole all the way thru..DD

That is why I use Swift Siroccos in rifles that the twist is fast enough got them or Partitions in the others.

Ramshot Tac with the Sierra 65gr game kings work very well. Another good bullet are the 60gr hornady sp's and 64gr win pp.

Since you're only talking about 100# pigs here, I think nearly any bullet would do. I'm not sure I'd take a quartering shot with the V-Max, Blitz or SX. Shot placement is key with the .223!
Life's too short to share it with a crappy knife!
