Hang tough. Remember that the slow dumb ones are dead now after the first weekend. Now you have the high flying fast ones to deal with...haha.

I didn't learn this by seeing it on TV, I learned it by doing it.

Ive hit them multiple times with 6 and 7 1/2 shot and they keep flying probably dropping dead a mile down the road.

Hunting the South zone near Dilley I would often take my turkey gun along with my Dove gun into the field. When ever I see a flock of white wings coming I grab my turkey gun with the super full choke and 3" #6's and aim at the lead bird. I have dropped more than a few when they were too high for my normal dove loads. Maybe not the best plan, but I would get so frustrated watching these flocks of 10-20 birds cruising just out of range above me.

I gotta do something b/c I seen prob 15 descent flocks of WW and didn't take down any. I am shooting an 870 Wingmaster made in 1969 no choke.

Ever think of putting in a tighter choke? A tighter pattern means more pellets on the bird. Don't let the white wings size you up.

I can't put a choke on my barrel if I could I would. Its really old so my next question. Can I buy a newer Remington 870 wingmaster barrel that has the capabilities of adding a choke for my shotgun made in the 60s??

White wings are tough birds period. On Monday one took 3 hits from 3 different guns before dropping

Choke up and use a heavier load. No 1oz. Loads.

A improved modified is about perfect

I use a modified to give me a good balance of close and longer range shots

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I've heard this question a few times an I still don't know the answer. Hopefully somebody will chime in on it

Use a mod full with 1 1/8 oz and remember they're bigger so they appear to fly slower than they really are. Also don't get star struck at the size of the flock. Just pretend its one bird at a time. Hope this helps man.

OMG, this is the best slumber party ever!

We sent one to Briley and had them make custom chokes for it.

SuperTitan, you say your gun doesn't have a choke? Is the barrel just not choked at all or what?

It's a barrel from the 60s there are no threads to screw on a choke. From what I'm told I can either get it threaded or buy a replacement barrel already threaded

Had to chuckle. There was a time when shotguns didn't come with a choke tube. The barrel was made at full choke or modified. Most double barrel shotguns had one of each.

I didn't learn this by seeing it on TV, I learned it by doing it.

Mine is a modified and my uncle got it for my grandfather for deer hunting. I have no idea where the original barrel for the shotgun is at.

There are more factory and aftermarket parts available for 870's than just about any other gun. Enter "replacement barrel for 870" in Google search. If you are not able to use Google or some other search engine, you can click on this link.

I think the new barrels fit the old guns, make sure the barrel and end cap are compatible. You can probably pick up a used barrel pretty cheap. I think the receiver is the determining factor for what you can shoot, even if the replacement barrel is suitable for 3 or 3-1/2 rounds, most likely the receiver on your old 870 is for "2 3/4" Only" an probably would not eject the longer shells well not that you need them for dove. Lots of info online, make note of your model number and get online with Midway, Brownells or Remington.

This is what i was wondering. It doesn't have to have a screw in choke to be choked. Most barrels that old are either full or modified. Now we know

I guess I just need to take a big target and get a better idea of the pattern of my current barrel. Atleast thats where I will start.
