So I'm sitting in the stand now and I see more does and fawns then ever. Couple sets of twins as well. So do does run others does off because that what looked like just happened at my feeder.

Dominant does will sometimes run off other does that are not in her family group especially around a food source.

Yup, just as with lots of other critters in nature there is a pecking order with deer. Does included.

Shoot the dominant ones because, typically speaking, according to body size of course, dominant does will be the older does and just like with bucks, you want to "refresh" your breeding population to the best managed herd.

I've seen does run off lots of young bucks but never seen them run other does. But I sure life to shoot does!

Well I can normally only shoot a doe on thanksgiving weekend but I still have to get a booklet and make sure.

A mean doe will run off everything and stake claim to a feeder; get enough of them and the bucks won't want to mess with fighting for the feeder until those does start smelling.

That and those are usually the old does that will bust you when hunting and alert everything withing earshot that something is not right.

She will also be the one who winds you and snorts for an hour rather than sneaking off like a nice buck. I must admit, I have taken a doe or two to shut her up just as much as the meat.

I have never shot a doe, looked at plenty through the scope, but never pulled the trigger. Don't know why. I've taken my 12 yr old son to shoot a doe and he lucks out and gets a buck.

On my last lease we had to shoot does. Our doe quota was mandatory. 48 of them between 6 hunters. Shot does until I was sick of it. That's a lot of work.

After last year not killing a single deer I'd trade the extra work at this point. But after killing, gutting, caping, quatering 8 deer of my own and helping my buds with theirs I could see how one year of that makes you get enough of it.

Those of us that were shooting does actually had to shoot a lot more. We had 3 of the 6 hunters that did all of the shooting. The other 3 old guys didn't want in on the action and were content to let the rest get the trigger time. The lease is MLD3 and all does had to be killed by Dec. 1. It was in the lease contract.

Some days we'd stack 'em like cord wood. We kept a lot of meat and donated a fair amount to Hunters for the Hungry. But gutting and processing that many deer in the S. Tx. heat did get a bit old. We'd gut 'em, then hang 'em in a walk-in cooler over night, then process them the next day.

I'm not on a lease this year due to the wife's employment situation. I'd gladly trade this problem for the doe slaying work any day. This is going to be a looooooong fall.

If you were with me LP and got sick with just 48, we would be going to the hospital after the first week then cheers

Yes they will run off other does and bucks too. I have seen them do this many times, that is the one I shoot first. I have seen them rare up on back legs and box the smaller less dominant does in the head. Those hooves make a helluva noise when they hit bone. Shoot them early in the season and take them out of the food and breeding chain...if possible. We are MLD3 and required to shoot a prescribed amount every season. We like to shoot our does early on, along with cull bucks. Then wait until after rut to shoot the mature bucks (if you can stand it) to hopefully have let them breed one more time.

I've killed a couple just because they were mean old bitties.

Sounds like good kind of work. Lets get after it. Of course just shooting the does is only the first step. Then we need to kill some hogs to process with the does and make sausage too.
