Have a one year old male GSP. When he was a growing pup, he would occasionally limp. Mostly on his front left leg, sometimes on his front right. He was not overly tender or sensitve to those areas. The vet said it was probably growing pains. He is now over a year old and not really growing anymore. He is mostly a lazy pot-licker despite his pedegree. (My fault, I know) But when I take him on longer walks or sometimes just after a nap, he starts to limp again. Again, not sensitive, but worries me. No pad problems. He runs fine. Most times, when he is standing, he will hold that paw off of the ground. Any ideas?

May just be his natural gait? My GSP usually stands with one paw up and most always sits with one paw up. The only time I've seen mine really limp was from his nail being down to the quick.
Does he dig a lot? Check out his nails on his front paws maybe. Just a thought.

Thanks for the tip. We have never clipped his nails. They have always been short. He digs and scratches the ground (chasing bugs and lizards) alot. Didn't occur to me that they could be worn too far down. It's worth checking.

I have a Gordon that is about a yr. old and he limps on a front foot..he is very fit to the point of being thin and has always done this since I got him from Ron...It doesn't seem to affect him or his desire to hunt so I have overlooked it..but is is not a sore pad....I do remember running pointers & hounds and having them with pads that were gone..soaking in salt water brian..ect.. it's not that, but with no more wgt. than he carries, I'm not too concerned..Don
