I've been shooting poorly the last few days. Today I got to thinking about it and decided to try something different. Back in the old days when I had good eyes for open sights, I was taught to sit the bullseye on top of the front bead instead of trying to center the front bead in the bullseye. With scopes, I've been centering the crosshairs on the bullseye. Today I tried sitting the bullseye on top of the crosshairs, and my shooting improved dramatically. Do any of you guys "sit" the bullseye on top of your crosshairs?

Not with crosshairs I dont. Sounds to me like a little adjustment of the scope is all thats needed. Where you hold the cross hairs on the target should not affect your group size at all as long as you hold the same place each time.

I think I can hold onto the same spot better when I just barely touch the bottom of the bullseye than when I "lose" the crosshairs in the black of the bullseye. I'm shooting at a 1" black bullseye @ 100 yds.

I have found that my groups shrink when I use a smaller dot as a bullseye. I can see better that I am aiming at the same point. I like to use a 1/4-1/2 MOA dot vs a 1" circle. These are what I use. The orange circle is 1" but I use the small black dot as an aiming point. http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores...ets&Ntk=All

But both have been noted earlier.

My guess is you are concentrating on a smaller point shooting at the exact edge of the one inch dot than just aiming in the general area of center of the one inch dot. The more defined and smaller your aiming point the better you shoot

Well I can see by your answers that nobody else uses the "sit the bullseye on the crosshairs" technique. Maybe I'll patent it. It seemed like I really could see the point of aim better when I wasn't obscuring it with the crosshairs. I had the scope dead center on windage and 1/2" high on elevation. Put them right in there much better that I did earlier using the normal sighting. I'll try the suggestion of the different color. I have some orange targets around here somewhere.

The more defined and smaller your aiming point the better you shoot sounds like it... I concentrate on the intersections of the lines on my targets that are gridded in 1" squares.

The old rifleman's adage: Aim small - Miss smallYes...patent the *six-o-clock hold* for scope usage.

Point of aim, point of impact. That's my motto.

I have my own 100 yard range, and I've quit using round bulleyes. My recent favorite target is an inverted V about an inch tall. The bottom legs of the V aren't hidden by the crosshairs, so it's easy to see. I aim at the top of the V and the group is in the clean white area above that (supposed to be anyway). Works pretty good.

I have my own range also, a backstop area 100 yds from my front porch. I'll try some inverted V's. Thanks for the idea.

What I notice when I shoot at 100 yards is that more often than not my crosshairs will cover almost all of the bullseye, so your not sure if you are holding dead in the middle or not. I think it is because I dont have a very hi powered scope. I like to pick other points to shoot at like the intersection fo the grid lines on the targets etc.
