Man that is really awesome! I have followed your posts and pics of her for years, and have always considered her the best dog on this forum. Seems like she will do almost anything for you, good to see that you return that favor. Your sons face is pretty awesome, would have been cool to be there. Best of luck in the future....if any dog could do it, I think it is her!

From experience with a blind dog, do not change up the furnature in the house it is amazing how a blind dog can get around in familiar surroundings but something like a new coffee table can cause problems for a while. My sister had a small house dog that went blind at an early age, he still loved to fetch and play but that new coffee table caused him headachea for a long time.

Yea, we still got a ways to go. What I did not share were the trees she crashed into. The cactus needles I pulled out of her front legs and chest. She ran into the gate in front of our camp house at a full run twice. But she did learn a mental map of the camphouse fairly fast. We are rearranging some things at home initially to get some hazzards like table corners out of her path. But hunting free in mesquite flats and cactus is is over for her. Even though she is being taught a new word "careful" to use to warn her when she is approaching a hazard, where hazards are everywhere in every direction, I have found it can't work unless she is short leashed at heel. But hunting field, prairie, and marsh, with her nose she will shine.

The ability to overcome adversity. That's what I got out of that. Animals and dogs in particular can teach us things about our shortcomings. I've never seen a dog feel sorry for itself. I've never seen a dog wallow in self pity.

John, the video is a tribute to instinct and will.

A poem by D.H. Lawrence comes to mind.

Self Pity

I never saw a wild thing
sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough
without ever having felt sorry for itself.

There are a few people that love their dogs as much as I love mine; and you clearly do. I entirely respect your care of and relationship with Blaze.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. The slide show was just done on google's free movie maker where I simply uploaded the folder of pictures, put them in the order I felt best, added the music and clicked "make movie". The song I added just felt like would fit, but I did not intend it to seem so sad. Coolie76 got it and the D.H. Lawrence poem explains what I could not seem to find a way to express. She has no self pity and in her brain, she still thinks she can do anything she wants. Yes, she will have to be retired from some types of hunting I normally used her for, at least temporarily, but there will always be plenty of other hunting roles that will allow her to continue to do what she was born to do. The prognosis is that at least one eye is operable. We have a human in the family needing surgery that will come first, but I promise we will help Blaze to see again. With our budget and time we are shooting for springtime to have cataract sugery done for at least one, maybe both eyes. But if it turns out she is not operable come that day, its ok. Blaze will continue to do what Blaze does and her nephew Dash will be ready to fill in the gaps and then some.

God has a away of bringing animals, especially dogs, into our lives for a multitude of reasons. Blaze is one of those Dogs that will touch your heart for years to come. God Bless and I thank you for being such a responsible owner to take care of a "family member" the way you are.

Good video. I'll have to send this to my wife. It will surely bring back memories of our Colt who we lost earlier this year. She still struggles with the loss, but she doesn't want to forget him. I made a tribute video of him and she balls every time she watches it like it was the first time.

You have many good hunts left with her, enjoy them. Wish you guys the best.

Well as always Blaze is amazing, to bad the story has come to this.... But she has great family that take exceptional care of her. I am sure you have many more years of joy with her. But have to agree this was hard to watch, I remember when you started post photos of her and she was still a pup.
