For one field?

Saw channel 5 interview the owner of Dove Blaster and he said the field he was in would have 63 hunters in it for the opener. I wouldn't want to be one of them.

Glad I am going to the lake.

Not if it's a 300+ acre field.
Seen shoots in cut corn fiels where 200 people wasnt enough.

I've got 130 that will be in 300 acres tomorrow and there will still be holes that the dove find.

If you're hunting over feeding areas (as opposed to water holes), more hunters generally make for a better hunt, keeping the birds stirred up and circulating.

But I want to see hunters spaced at least 100 yards a part, preferably 150. Where you're out in field, as opposed to around a fence line, that can be as many as 1 hunter per 2 -3 acres. In those cases, I like to see folks required to put their gun down while retrieving birds.

We all need to practice Whoa more.

I have been peppered with enough pellets for one life time. I will avoid crowded fields like that at all costs.

Yeah definitely not enough info to make judgment but 63 in a large field is not too many.

His fields are pretty sick over at Indep and 121. Its two fields separated by a tree line. If 63 are hunting in the combined fields, I see no problem.

The fields aren't that big especially with a race trac gas station an the 40 trucks, circus tent, and more. There is dove but retrieving them is going to be fun

I'd say find better shooters

up

At a little over 2 acres per man it would be pretty hard for a dove to run that gauntlet and make it out alive even if half the shooters were blind.

We have over 165 hunters on Saturday and another 158 on Sunday. They will be spread out over 1500 acres.

Looking forward to another fantastic opener!

We have 300 hunters on 9870 acrs, 32.9 acres per person...biggest complaint we get is "not enough hunters"

I'm sure that a lot of places will have plenty of birds for those numbers, but I don't like crowds either. One of the reasons I hunt is to get out and enjoy the outdoors. If I have to wait in line to park and get lunch with 100 other guys it kind of defeats the purpose.

I also like to shoot lots of birds, so that part would be fine! smile

Cass

I don't know how many the guy in Hondo has on his sunflower field
but I'd bet it's more and he charges for the experience..Some of
my buddys have hunted there and they say he is covered with birds
and he feeds at night and entertains...but I've heard he's a little pricey and it's more than just a bird hunt..DD

I hunted this field with the 63 other hunters yesterday morn and eve. Everyone spaced out well. Terrific dove flight, many limits reached, kids shooting clay pigeons at lunch break, cart girls circleing the field with water, soft drinks and breakfast burritos (on the house) and dinner served to all hunters after the evening hunt (on the house). A terrific day and only 25 minutes from the house.

Sounds like you had a great experience. It is nice to hear that everyone spaced out and hunted safely.
