I am looking to make two purchases here soon for a hunt where I will setup 2 weeks before the hunt then I have to remove my gear. Afterward I will store the gear at some family property but am thinking of running the feeder at the property just to see what will come to it. (1) is a small feeder 30 gal cap or less any one have any input? estimated how long between filling running 2x day 3-4 sec? (2) any recommendations on a tripod? Thanks

A 30 gal feeder will hold 200 lbs of corn. I use one in east texas and it lasts about a month feeding 3-4 sec but I have the funnel set a little closer to reduce the amount of corn since I have a food plot in the area. As far as a tripod I build my own that are portable where the legs fold up and I can throw a 10' tripod on my shoulder and go. They tend to be a little shakier than one with all of the bracing but they work real well. The gun rest is attached to the seat and spins with the seat to reduce the topo heavy weight when I want to fold it up and carry it.

I get the impression this is a one time short hunt, if so and you have a timer, consider mounting the timer to a 5 gallon bucket hoist it by means of a rope. Sounds chessy and it is, but if you are moving around or have to pack it in it works. The bucket holds about 25lbs. Just a thought.

Thats what we did when I was young and when we wound get ready to hunt we would throw more corn around to hold the deer there longer. We still use this set up now but we use 55gal barrels. This keeps the deer from eating and running off.

Yes it is a one time hunt on this property. I have never used one of the bucket feeders. Just because they do look "cheesy" but maybe a option as I really do not want to drag one of the big feeders down from my brother in laws place.

If it's such a short hunt why don't you freehand a fifty pound bag? If you have access & time do it for a few weeks.

I had thought about just corning out of a bag but the property is too far away, we will set up and then go back for the hunt two weeks later. I'm just not sure if one of the bucket style feeders would last that long.

One week on the bucket feeder feeding twice a day...depending upon your spinner plate gap from the funnel.

Me and my son used the 5 gallon feeder,it holds 30 lbs. if i remember and if you use 3/4 spinner gap at 6 seconds twice a day it will last just fine but you could buy two,i mean they are pretty cheap on the moultrie site. And throw a mineral block out... what the hell.

If I was going to hunt a place one time, I wouldn't worry about a feeder. Get up there 2 weeks before, do some scouting and locate a trail, crossing or a natural feeding area. Then I would set up a tree stand or pop-up. Throw out some corn when you arrive 2 weeks later and hunt it. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.
