I have always thought a really small SUV/truck is a better deal than the side by sides.

like folks have said -
s10 blazer
bronco 2
toyota 4 runner
isuzu trooper
montero
etc
land rovers seem to go cheap and have a good aftermarket/olloing

Newish would give you fuel injection too.

All the vehicle suggestions are great ones. I love my K5.... it in my mind is the ultimate hunting rig.

X2

K5's can pretty much be built to do it all, plus solid front axles!!

k5's and k10's are the best!

I just sold my first generation '85 T4R, rebuilt 22RE engine, lifted and locked with armor and bumpers (no winch) - that would have been perfect

A Suzuki Samurai is by far the best 4x4 out there . It's little and light enough to go anywhere and will do anything that u need it to do. I have had 9 total and they have been nothing but a great time. I used to buy and sell them pretty regular but now I have found one that is mint with no rust what so ever so I turned it into my daily driver to save the miles on my 2011 Z71. I can send pics if u want me to so that u have a idea of what I'm talking about.

I've got a 1994 Ford Explorer 4X4 that works well for me. I bought it after I sold my ATV. It's pretty much loaded with all of the options except a sunroof and I gave $1800 for it. The heat is nice on those cold mornings and the AC is when it's 100+ degrees and you're working at the lease. It also has a remote starter so I can fire it up from inside my trailer and it's nice and toasty by the time I leave for the stand. up

the brand of car doesnt matter the maintenance on the car you pick is what matters, anyone can buy a toyota and not change the oil. I would look for records more than brands. I am talking from experiance, my k5 is running decent now, it was neglected and now I am paying for the repairs

I have a Chevy 4door 2500HD and would not take it where I hunt either so I bought a jeep wrangler and love it! It has the 4cyl with 5 speed and has plenty of power to do what I want plus it is the same width as my polaris ranger.

One thing about the jeep it is easy to work on if needed and parts are easy to locate. I gave $5600 for my 97 model.

I would check with the area towing companies. I just picked up 2 Cherokees, an 89 and 94, 4x4 for $500ea. Both work great. One will be left at the lease and the other will be for the commute to/from the lease.

Love my old 87 Toyota 4Runner
Removed the top, added some seats in the back and mounted a winch on the roll bar for hauling in game and rigged up frame out of 1" tubing to put a cover o it.

Maybe 2K into it and it just purrs.
Our lease is very sandy and it just floats on top of the thick sand.

I had 1998 GMC Yukon that was good to me. Only problem was it was a two door, was hard to get the kiddies in especially with them in car seats. Was plenty powerful enough and had a 2" lift which was enough to clear brush and rocks. Wish I still had it. I was looking for a Bronco when I purchased it. If I wasn't planning on taking the kids with me I'd stick with a two door. I gave 2200 for that Yukon. I too have a diesel crew cab that I dont want to scratch up so now I'm back at looking for something myself.
