Me and my buddy where arguing when you need your liscense while hunting. He says that you don't need it if your hunting rabbits or coons but you do need it when you deer hunt and dove hunt. VS me saying you need it whenever you go hunting no matter what the species is. So who's right?

A hunting license is needed anytime one is hunting.

No I'm better than that. If he don't carry his ill do it when he ain't looking. He's my friend so I don't want him to spend $300 on a ticket and then have me rub it in his face, that could ruin a friendship. But I'll ask a game warden if we get stopped. I was just trying to make sure I wasn't wrong and arguing for nothing.

More specifically, you are required to have it ON YOUR PERSON anytime you are engaged in the hunting of any game. Same applies to fishing.

Don't carry it for him! You can get a ticket for hunting with someone else's license. I don't even carry my kids license when in the field

I didn't learn this by seeing it on TV, I learned it by doing it.

I agree with the other posters 1000%, Remember your friend has the responsibility to "mow his own grass" so to speak, him getting a ticket should not have jack to do with your friendship, if it does, you may want to reevaluate it yourself.
Get a Texas (or any State) hunting brochure/rules book and he will find it right there, case closed, license and I.D. It is the resposibility of the hunter to know the rules, (ask any GW)

Your buddy may be talking about the provision that says you don't need a license to hunt nuisance furbearers, but rabbits are not considered furbearers. His problem will be proving the animals were a nuisance if he's hunting them for sport. This same question gets posted often pertaining depredating hogs or coyotes. When you have to prove what you're doing falls in a very narrow category, it's always best to just buy the license and take all questions out of the equation.

It can be on someone else's land as long as it's at the direction of the landowner.

I keep it simple..I never leave hom ewithout it. Even if you dont need for ceratin species, I would think it rowls a game warden to ask for and you dont have...

Better that you keep up with it than they lose it somewhere. Depends on the game warden whether you are ok or not. I figure if my kids are old enough to handle a high power rifle they are old enough to keep up with their license in the field. (and tag and log etc)
