I take the rifle to the range, pull the BCG out and spray it down with Rem Oil, reinstall the BCG, couple the upper and lower and call "HOT RANGE"!!

Slip 2000, or Frog Lube, which ever is close. I run the BCG very wet compaired to my other rifles.

Breakfree works well. I run ARs a good bit wetter too. A light grease is good too and stays put better than most lubes.

Penzoil 10w - 30 or if I feel fancy Mobil 1 Synthetic ...in whatever my weight my current truck takes. Right now it's Dodge so 5w-20. I just pour it on the bolt, work it the bolt back and forth a few times and I'm good to go. I can go over 500 rounds before I soak it again. Jut keep it wet. Lot's of discussion of this on AR-15.com http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_7/425955_.htmlNo need to buy hybrid hi-tech oils and greases. Most standard oils are too thin. Motor oils are really cheap and you can buy bottles to store the lube in your grip as well. Many swear the synthetic lasts longer....it may. I just fired over 300 rounds today out of both AR's soaked in Mobil 1 and they are still very wet. I could easily shoot another 400-500 rounds out of each before applying more lube. Heavier weight may be better like 10w 30 or 15w-50...I dunno. I know 1 bottle is cheap and it will last 10 years unlike all this hi-tech bs. My truck was 40k new and if the oil is good enough to keep it happy at 3000 rpm it can handle my AR at 60rpm.

Are you guys running a lot of ammo at once thru the rifle...I think he purchased it for a truck gun for coyotes and hogs..and not to cowboy with..but I may be mistaken..I thought most autos you'd not want them wet because you end up with the lube in your face and eyes..plus it attracts sand and dirt...and Pleasanton has that red blow sand ect..DD

First shot through the rifle will blow off all the excess lube so no worry about lube in your face and eyes after that.

You are over thinking it. The oil just clings to the metal and keeps it wet. There is no spraying or running off. It will seep to the lower unit though and keep things there nice and lubed as well. It gets every where pretty much. Makes it a lot easier to clean as well. Used to have to scrape the back of the bolt by the rings....where carbon built up. Don't have to worry about that anymore. Since motor oil is designed to cling and lubricate metal at cold and hot temps, it really clings to AR parts if you fire one round or 500 and the barrel is glowing. I had a piece of paper next to where I was firing and the first couple of shots rid the excess oil and there was a fine mist spray on the paper like mentioned above. After that, no issues. I'm lazy and I just pour the oil onto the bolt from the big bottle and then work the action a few times. I may be overkill but man it works great. You can control how much you put on and for a truck gun I'd just put a little less on it. Most auto shooters use Machine Gunners oil or Motor oil because there is no burn off. You want to keep them wet. Most gun oils will burn off an auto including CLP. As for attracting dirt, if you keep your bolt closed I wouldn't really worry about how much dirt got on it. You could close the dust cover as well if it is equipped with one.

Lightly drooling Breakfree CLP and its GTG!
And you should have safety/shooting glasses on or you might shoot your eye out.

I just use a little CLP. I don't run mine with very much since I run it suppressed - too much lube just gives all the blow back more places to stick

I have a hard time stomaching using car oil in my gun for some reason - probably just because I have never really thought about it... but ^^^ is a good dang point and cleverly said.

If folks are worried about making a mess with motor oil, then try frog lube.

On the guns i shoot a lot, i run some oil on them. Depends on what i have at the time. The M1a/M1 Garand/Mini 14 i use grease whether it's in storage waiting for use or running it until it gets hot. But on my patrol rifle or truck gun i usually run it very dry. Only carry 50 rounds of issued ammo on duty, but have about 300 ready to go in my truck. With that few rounds, lube will not become a problem. The reason i run it dry when in the vehicle is due to the dust issue. The gun i'm currently using is an older Bushmaster Carbon 15, and has no dust cover. Went to a shooting school with it, and ran about 150 rounds very quickly through it with no issues with very little lube.
In God we trust, all others get run through TCIC. Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. Lack of Planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

I run heavy weight motor oil, mostly synthetic. Right now it's Royal Purple 15W-40.
