I am looking at a lease in Halletsville and wanted to know what the hunting is like in that area. I have only hunted in Johnson City, Fredericksburg and Commanche.

I have a large number of Kin there, they used to have a big problem with too many deer running around in the City. My aunt was mad because they would eat up her garden. Not sure how the surrounding area is.

It really depends on the ranch.
If management has been in place, you could have some nice bucks.
If it is anything like it was when I hunted there. Everyone will shoot the 1st(and usually the only) buck that they see.
If your used to hunting around Fredericksburg, you will probably be disappointed with the numbers that you see in Lavaca County.

Lavaca County is one of the counties with Antler Restrictions and you have to get permits for taking antlerless deer unless you take them during the Archery Only Season.

Yep, it will be different than hunting in the Hill Country, that's for sure!

I live just outside of Hville. It depends since the AR I've seen bigger and more deer. It's nothing like the monsters from South Texas but you know that. Depending on location and management you could have a decent shot a nice buck. The KC hall has a big buck contest every year and there are some nice ones taken. My neighbor shot an 11 pointer this year.

Here's a couple of pics from before the season.

It depends on where the lease is and the size of it. Antler restrictions have definitely improved the situation and the Big Buck contests have shown a steady improvement in the size of the winners. The biggest problem in Lavaca county is that there are numerous 15-25 acre "ranchettes" and hunting pressure can be intense. If you have 200 acres or more and have similary sized neighbors, hunting can be very good. If you are surrounded by the aforementioned "ranchettes", it can be pretty tough to find any legal deer. Hogs are plentiful and turkeys are fairly plentiful in certain areas.

Do you homework and find out about the neighbors.

Good Luck and Good Hunting.

Just let me know when and where. I'm between Vienna and Seclusion.

I saw your pigs' granddaddy yesterday - must have pushed 300 lbs.

Well could you tell him to get his family back on the southside. I'm near Breslau.

I've been wanting to get this baby factory for about nine months now. She just keeps popping them out.

It keeps the hogs from rooting. I had a swamp under the feeder before I put the panels down.

I never thought about a panel under the feeder. Looks like it is working. That's a good idea. Thanks.

I took some rebar and cut some stakes out of it. They'll just move the panels if you don't stake it down.
