At one time i kept horses, and have seen a few contract west nile. If a horse can get it then it would stand to reason a deer could get it as well right? Im not saying west nile will be the cronic wasting disease for Texas, but seriously, if a deer can get it, are there obvious symptoms such as with CWD and is the meat edible? Kind of a goofy question for some im sure but the fact is while we all fog our suburbs, livestock and wildlife are out there still feeding skeeters. With horses, left untreated that is, west nile is fatal and its not a pretty death at all. Im sure it would be quicker in a deer sized animal. I dont know, just got to thinking about it.

There have been cases of WNV in whitetail deer reported. From what I've read about infected deer, I don't think you'd have the chance to eat one that is infected because death seems to come pretty quick, much like a horse. The article that I read didn't mention anything about contracting it through meat consumption though.
