I had a disturbing conversation w/my buddy's youngest daughter yesterday..who thinks Daddy is giving her the Gun Club..Seems she lives near Austin and thinks that she can raise prices because the ranges there are charging $800 annually for a membership..You guys in the larger areas let me know what you annual fees are running...if you will...Don

I think $800 is dumb, pardon my language. For family man with kids it is ain't smart. I go to a range 2-3 times per month max. Lets say $17-18 per visit, $50 per month average, $600 max per year. Or less. So more reasonable price would be 400-500 per year, as a welcome bonus that would be family membership. And if after paying $600 (max) I dont get free unlimited passes for family - it ain't worth to deal with that Club.

Don have her Google up the average income for Austin, and the average income were the club is located, she just might get a big dose of reality.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

What gun club in Austin is charging $800 (or even close to that) for a membership?
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Oh, but if you are talking about trap and skeet ranges, the range here in Waco has memberships from $50-100, plus $5 per round of trap or skeet or whatever. Non member prices are $8/round.

Our fees over the yrs. have increased as with most things and their costs..from about $30 to around $80, but we have life memberships that are reasonable, you can bring guests w/any membership..range fees $2 member skeet or trap $5...and we give a life discount on age 65 or older and ex military ect..pluse we have club events that are open to all and discounts on firearms & ammo purchases..But everyone has spent the last 25 plus yrs. working at this, and I'm sure JM works at it daily..I do recall when Ralph shut down yrly. memberships at Place to Shoot because he got mad at a guy picking up spent pistol brass that had just purchased a membership..It reduced a lot of the rest of us and our involvedment with him and the range..DD

The two clubs around austin that i know of are 100 or so. Best of the west charges you a small per visit fee too.
My club in GA was 300 a year with no other fees. I thought that was reasonable. Wouldnt pay 800

Bandera has several pistol ranges including IDPA course every SAT...two Skeet fields and a Trap field...two different rifle ranges the old in the front w/3 stations and the other in the back of the club that's next to the IDPA.course...I think our fees are currently $80 yr, about $300 for a lifetime maybe less, and about $125 for over 65, or retired military..and maybe active. We have all covered stations, and the old one has RR ties in front where your shooting thru a tube...and the front pistol range has boards for deflection..All the berms are very high..and we have about 10 registered Skeet Shoots Annually..DD

I am a member of Buffalo Creek out of Ben Wheeler and the membership fees are $50./yr. Members pay $4.50 a round for Trap, 5-stand, no skeet yet. Has a new covered rifle range out to 300 and a nice handgun range. Unlimited access. Fall league starts Sept 13th. Get a good meal on league nites.
